Not exactly a problem but my gf keeps asking what the strange gurgling noise is...

When at very high revs (usually just before changing gear) there is a noise exactly like the noise you make finishing a MacDonalds milkshake which sounds like it comes from the bottom of the gearstick. [edit: for about a second before changing, usually at WOT]

Any ideas?

One thought is that this may be originating from the air pump pipe which I think is still connected even though the cat has been removed...

Thats a weird one? Not sure it could be the air pump as that ratchets off at 3.5k revs.
Could it be from your gearbox? do you have any problems shifting??
:o

I don\'t have problems shifting when moving. I do have problems getting into first gear when not stationary

Why on earth would you want to try and force it into first gear when not stationary

Martiny

Agree with Dave, thats quite a bad idea !

Martiny

Oh, and the noise you hear, might be the little plastic bush has worn out under the gear lever. ( do you drive with your hand on the lever?)

RemarkLima

Well, sometimes you want to be in first when you\'re just about to stop, rather than run in 2nd or come to a complete stop IYSWIM... Works fine if you blip the throttle tho :D
Montego Blue 94 R2 FD3S... Bling not included.

yeah, that\'s right, I only move into first as I come to a stop at traffic lights but it won\'t go into first easily unless totally stationary even with a throttle blip (which I do as a matter of course now)

Yes, I do rest my hand on the gear lever quite a lot, thanks for the tip
