I asked this question along time ago and didnt get much reply so thought i would try again.  I put some 18\'s on the car and its lowered 40mm and sometimes when going over bumps and round corners seems to rub alot on the front pastic liners.

Im sure many of you have had the same or had to modify the plastic liners.  Ive unscrewed part of the lining as you can see from the piccies and trouble is the front part if you take it of theres a oil cooler and also i think there is a hole going through to the engine, if i completely removed the lining then everything would get covered in crap.

The pics show the lining and show where it rubs at moment.

Cheers for any replys

I had a same problem with my 18\'s and i have taken them out by cutting the bits that were rubbing and use cable tie to secure the rest.  If you do decided to go down this route then please tie the wiring loom securely as its running on top and can come loose and rub with the rubber.

sounds like a plan, as you can see rubs oretty bad on the top part

I think you\'re ok to be honest. If it is rubbing a lot, the whole thing would wear through. I know this, because it has happened to mine. Due to an accident i had a few years back, the bottom of the front left is not secured to anything and rubs against the tyre - it has rubbed so much now that it has worn away - and it wears away very very quickly.

its only mainly when going over bumpy road, and also when i turn sharp, if i put it on full lock when its still it does touch the plastic a bit aswell at the front

im thinking of getting some slighty wider arches in the fututre so wot would i ahve to do then odviously the arch liner wouldnt be big enough.

Hi,

I know this is an old thread but I\'ve just seen it.

What I did was to use a paint stripper gun to heat up the inner arches and
push them further back...worked a treat.

the best thing you can do to stop this completly is buy yourself a set of powerflex bump stops for your shocks , this will stop the wheel giong up into the arches as high when you hit bumps , sorted mine out a minta !!

not sure what size tyres they are now wil have to take a look when i get home, i mgiht take a look at see about the bump stops, trouble is the suspension i have on it is a bit of a strange make, has Monza written and i put a thread on about it a while back and no one had heard of it, will see wot i can do.

chrisJDM

just taken a look at powerflex website and it doesnt list rx7 only lists mx5 under mazda, but they do all different size universal ones, anyone know what size bump stops i would need?? :D

i bought mine second hand mate sorry , plus instead of taking the shock off all i did was jack the car up and slice the bump stops down one side of the length an tie wrapped em back together with 3 or 4 wraps , still working perfectly after 6 months .
