never had this problem then lately when taking it up to high revs and trying to change quick just wont go in, ive heard this is a common problem.  Ive seen a few engine torque dampers around some cheaper ones on fleebay and some more expensive, are these the best way of eliminating this problem? does it make alot of difference which one i go for??? cheap or expensive? much difference in it???

Ive also seen a few places and i know Dragon do it, a transmission brace which jsut looks like a piece of metal that just bolts onto the gearbox, does this solve the problem??

Whats best to go for???

Cheers :o

The dragon gearbox brace is a known fix been meaning to get one myself,

Engine mounts, gearbox brace or the torque brace will all help eliminate the problem.

Check your engine and diff mounts are ok before you start trying to hide the problem with braces...

I\'ve got same problem as you, tried everything!! and won\'t work with solid engine mount/gearbox mount, brances etccc.
Could be a worn pilot needle bearing inside the back of eccentric shaft or clutch/flywheel/ throw away bearing,master/slave cylinders worn etc...
stripped down the gearbox and put in new kits of synchs.
Don\'t know if that\'s solved the problem yet!
If that\'s everyday car, shift the gear slowly and it\'s only way and when is the last time you have changed the gear oil?

Yup - the engine mounts are prone to failure if you drive the car hard!

You could try a B&M short shifter that helped mine and is a lovely gear change now with much shorter throw.
Clive used to stock them and probably still does.

how much are the dragon braces? seem interesting.

im hopefully gona get some work done on it by RX Motors early next year so will get him to check the mounts.

I think you should give Dragon a call if you are interested in one.

I second what Eddie says!! The shifter is superb!! Think Clive has them on offer at the moment.

I dont understand how a brace can stop you missing gears if the gearbox, engine and shifter are all mounted together, fair enough if its a front wheel drive with linkages, but with rear wheel drive i just don\'t get it

chrisJDM

well doesnt the engine twist when you floor it, and the gearbox is connected to the engine so twists aswell, so you cant quite get it in gear, so if for instance you have a torque brace it holds the engine in place and stops it moving as much, and a brace would do the same, just hold the gearbox in place.  Thats my understanding of it anyways

If  bracing one point,it will find a way to another points eg gearbox mounts etc...
Why not to check yourself as it\'s got 5 mounting points, 2 in engine bay\'s and 3 in gearbox\'s
Another thing is, short shifter do not help either!

chrisJDM

ive already got a short shifter had it ages, i dont know if it makes any difference
