You can wire it to a brake light and still have all brake lights working

chrisJDM

does a fog light need 2 b a certain brightness?

Hayward North

Well we do a lot of import foglight conversions at mx5city and yes it needs to be a certain brightness but most MOT testers dont know so as long as its red its ok, Foglight in the brake light is a no no, unless you just add another bulb holder to your original brakelight, it needs to work indepenently, ie, weather your foglight is on or not you need to see to lights illuminate when you press the brake peddle, also your foglight button needs to illuminate and turn on with the sidelights and be offset to the drivers side not central (most MOT testers dont know it needs to be offset) or it will fail an MOT, Best is to wire it into the drivers side revers light with an illuminated switch, Use a sideligt live for your scorce.

mmm interesting...

Dont do MOT`s meself, so no idea the legalities of it,:)

I have 5 brake lights on the rear of my rx, 4 rear, and one high level brake light,

I wired me fog light into one of the brakelights,  i switch on me sidelights and they all light up, i press the brake and they all light up, i switch on me fog light, and me side lights are on & only one lights the fog light,

So this seems fine to me :)

Not Strickly leagal but if ya MOT tester interperates the rules differently then all well and good, there is a lot that has been left to the discression on the tester so is down to the person i guess.

chrisJDM

went and bought some diodes today, got a couple of them just in case, how exactly do i wire them in???? :Hammer

Mobilemick

#28
basically the diode cuts the feed going to the other brake lights,  you dont want all ur brake lights coming on, when you turn ur fog switch on , it could be a red wire not sure,

Cut that wire, then wire the fog switch wire to the wire coming out of the light.(switch on your fog switch and your fog light(high level brake light) will come on,  but no other brake lights.

Press your brake and the high level one wont come on.

then the wire that goes back to the brake pedal, put one end of the diode on there, and then connect the red wire, and the fog switch wire to the other end of the diode,

I drew u a piccy  lol
