Hi folks - have come across a 92 gen 3 RX7 - it has recently had a new engine fitted and currently sits at 62 000 miles - I will ask if there is paperwork to warrant the work has been done. Could I expect relatively troublefree motoring from now on and would the car be fine to say 100k?. I think the engines standard apart from an aftermarket zorst. Thanks for any advice guys. Cheers.:)

Hi,

That\'s always a difficult question to answer for any car.  Preformance motors in particular.

A well cared-for, maintained and rebuilt rotary shouldn\'t provide any more trouble than your average high-power car and a rebuilt engine should last a decent distance.

Who rebuilt it?  If it\'s a well-known rotary expert then it should be good for well over 40k miles.  If it\'s by a random garage with no previous experience then it may last, it may not.

What mods are there on it or is it a standard rebuild?

I\'m having my engine rebuilt, ported, de-catted and and replacement ECU fitted and mapped at the moment and will be gutted if it doesn\'t last at least 40k miles! (i\'m going to be paranoid about looking after it though to try to ensure this).

It\'s a good idea to get it checked out by a rotary mechanic and get a rotary compression test done if possible as it\'ll help pinpoint any potential problems.  There are plenty of threads around on what to look for in a good car, use the search button.

There are a few rotary owners up in scotland and they should be able to reccomend a \'local\' mechanic.

Good luck!
