Take a look at this:

http://cars.uk.msn.com/news/car_news_article.aspx?cp-documentid=1202418

I cant say that I have much respect for the police and there decisions but this takes the p1ss. :Thumbsup!

1.) What a waste of money :Thumbs-up
2.) Who is ever going to take responsibility for damaging it
3.) Come to that who is ever going to be allowed to drive it! :(
4.) How do you escape the long arm of the law?.... Drive down a road with speed bumps. :WaveBye
5.) Running costs? :eek
6.) Practicallity?
7.) Is it actually ever going to see any road action?? I doubt it! :Thumbs-up
8.) Where\'s the money actually come from to pay for this little luxary?..... Hmmm I wonder, our hard earned probably.:spank

*Sigh*

The police didn\'t buy it. It has been set-up as a promotional tool for this year\'s MPH show..

..and it seems to be working a treat.

Kevin

Kind of a contradiction in the news article then?

QuoteNo more BMW 535d patrol cars for our boys in blue. Instead they will have a bellowing Italian 6.5-litre V12 and four-wheel-drive at their disposal, good for 211mph and 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds. That should have the joyriders giving up and coming quietly before they’ve even managed to hotwire the ignition.

So is it just a show car or is it going to be used?  And how is it "working a treat" pray tell?

nikp

Perhaps because of this:

QuoteWell okay, the Murcielargo, like the Gallardo and Esprit is only a styling exercise designed to strike fear into the hearts of any ne’er do wells with a screwdriver and a hooded top

andysmee

Apologies, I meant that this is the third post today about it and, apart from the confusion about the purpose of the car and who paid for it, it is giving valuable free publicity to the MPH 06 show and the Metropolitan Police (that\'s what\'s working a treat)

I didn\'t realise that it has been reported without these important details in the press! In which case the publicity stunt is going to backfire - as public opinion will undoubtably be negative (as above)

I\'ll shut up now...

D1 WTF

this cant be real,  as police never have private plates and that does blatently have one.
IF YOU DIDN\'T CARE YOU WOULDN\'T BE LOOKING

jamie_eaton

surely cant be real! though i did see a couple of years ago some police division in the Uk had a marked Honda NSX tuned up.

probedb

They do have one in Italy if I\'m not mistaken? Didn\'t the factory actually give one to the Police or something?

Yeah I think I saw something about that a year or so ago.

Up here in Scotland the various Police forces have marked and unmarked Scoobies and Evo\'s along with a few M5\'s and the obligatory Volvo T5\'s

Little_ant

if you look at the reg on it it says YEV 1L which IIRC belongs to the managing director of lambo uk i see it in alderly edge all the time used to be on a grey mercy spider

olly-civic

the police had one of them at the start of the gumball 3000,

DFLROWLAND

the car is owned by lamborghini london & the YEV1L (why evil) plate is always put on all their latest demonstrator.

its been in the pipeline for sometime & they have had similar ties with the met in past.

i saw that very car when i picked up our gallardo spyder from the same garage. the rx7 will be a track toy from now on.

its purely a PR exercise although lamborghini did give a gallardo to the italian motorway police for pusuits & medical organ transportation.

Yes thats right,
the Italian Police has one on the road! A mate of mine who was a student in italia told me that the car is nead Milano to hunt the Germans speeding all the time on Italians roads like them do on Autobahn.

Well boys and girls, on Autobahn in Germany its legal, but not Autostrada in Italy ^^
