Long time lurker, now that I have finally got hold of an RX (FD) of my very own I guess I should come out and say hi!
Anyway, as the title states, the pedal arrangement in my FD, specificaly the brake and accelerator are widely spaced apart and the accelerator sits a few centimeters behind the brake. The clutch and brake have drilled pedals, whilst the accel is rubber. Is this standard, and more importantly is there anything I can do to bring the brake and accelerator closer together and on the same plane? Heel and toeing is an impossiblity at the moment! Hoping to get it sorted and see if it helps on gear changing prior to getting a short shifter.
Thanks in advance, and as I am a newbie, please play nice!

I find the standard pedal setup fine for heel toeing.  I\'d imagine the best option for bringing the pedals closer together is to get a replacement accelerator that is wider on the left so it extends towards the brake pedal.  Surely though the accelerator needs to be set back from the brake so that when you\'re braking and the brake pedal is depressed they are then on the same plane which should make it easier to blip the throttle.  If they were on the same plane at rest then when you were braking surely the accelerator would be too far forward to allow you to blip the throttle?

sorry, I really should have replied earlier to this. I will happily conceed that you are right regarding the fore/aft positioning, although for me it still feels too much of a difference. I am starting to think that I must have tiny feet, if no one else is having a problem with heel and toe! I guess by your reply that my pedal spacing is normal, and non adjustable so I will try aftermarket pedal covers to see if that sorts it out. Will let you know how I get on, I cant believe I am the only person that has dificulty with this?

Martiny

How are you doing this?

Normal way is to brake with the toe, turn your foot sideways, and then blip the throttle with the heel.

I wonder if the setup is different on a LH drive car, compared to our cars, because of the gearbox tunnel ( or something!) ?

AtomicRex

We are changing the whole set up, as I was finding a similar problem out on track.

I\'m in the process of removing the servo.....and then whilst retaining the original pedals putting in 3 new master cylinders with a balance bar for front and rear brakes.

Martiny is correct about the heal and toe thing....bit of a misnomer as you don\'t actually use your heal!

I fitted one of these ages ago.

RAW

where from? looks like it does the trick. does it clamp on top or replace the original pedal?

Want one! .............

I got it from an RX7Club member called \'Widefoot\'. Its got a little grub screw that fixes onto the pedal arm.

Martiny, I do it as you say, I know that some do it using the sides of their foot, but again my feet seem too small to do that! Somehow bringing the accelerator closer and (for me) a little further up would be great. Simplest method would be to stick on an aftermarket pedal cover, but it just seems a little shonky and it doesnt address a couple of other issues I have, so may only be a short term measure. Maybe I will have to bite the bullet and get something fabricated. :2Rolleyes
