i want to decat my fd when i get it and have been told i need a power FC to do this, but the reason i ask this is my car has the mines ECU on it would the ecu not learn that the cat is not there and run properly or would it just go kaboom so to speak?

Grizzly

Ok, basicly there is a few ways of doing this, First is Use the stock Down Pipe and fit a stock Size mid Pipe. This is proberly the best way if you just want to loose the cat, but people usaly do it for a reason (more power) so they buy a bigger bore one (3") but to fit this you need to get a 3" down pipe too, this is where the Troble starts. If you fit a 3" Down pipe and Decat to an Fd with a Stock EMS you will have problems becouse it will Flow ALOT!! more and you will see things like Spikes and Creep (so the boost will rase over the Target) this is why you need a PFC to Map the Fuel to cope.

If you want My advice (having tried both set ups) if i was you i\'d buy a Good 3" down pipe and a Mid pipe with a Box on it. Fd\'s are great with a 3" all the way through but they realy do attract all the wrong Attention and i don\'t know about you i hate Blue Lights.

But the Up side of fitting a Decat is you won\'t need an Air pump anymore so that can get pulled off.

BUT!! i would say keep your Stock cat, Just to make sure you don\'t have any Problems when it comes round to MOT time. (would be a Pain in the rear if you had to Buy another one just for one day to get an MOT)

I was talking to a guy who is really good at setting up boost controllers and he asked if a properly setup boost controller would work as it is just these issues that requice the stand-alone?

Grizzly

Yeh, I recently fitted a Pofect B to my FD and i have to admit the level did stay  closer to the target Boost.

BUT!! Thing is you would be better Buying a PFC sooner rather than Later, mainly becouse the Right Fueling will save you head aches and at the Moment your Motor will be set up for Jap fuel,You will have an Exhaust/Air filter that the Mazda map was not set for. Also If you get a Remap on a PFC you will get more HP. BUT then again You will need a Boost Controler before long too becouse you will want a steady/Accurate Boost level that won\'t spike too far Over your Target causing your Problems.

I must admit the map I have on my Apexi PFC is really stable on the boost and I currently don\'t use an aftermarket boost controller but am still using stock boost pressure :)
