recently after i nailed my car :yes and the turbo timer kept it running for 3 mins after once it turned it self off it started steaming!:2Mad "

i opened the bonnet and it had dumped all its water on the florr this has happened twice now!:reallymad

obviously i let it cool down then top it up with around 2.5 liters the temp guage stays firm ? any ideas:rolleyes:

MillSpeed

Any idea where the water\'s coming from?

Kash_

check the caps for the AST and filler neck as well as the AST itself...

Mr_7

its wierd cause its not the caps or any thing as it runs fine its only when its hot and turned off its coumes out of the one on the far ledt under the wing.

i know this is expansion but it dumps so much that if i left it it woulf overheat and buzz to say its empty

Jit

I saw the same thing on another members car today when it was really hot....the water temps were around 96 about 5 mins earlier before stopping and it dumped a load of coolant....i dont think its anything to worry about?

Mr_7

problem is if i didnt top it up before i went again the buzzer will stay on there is obviouls a reason for this>

Yep, sounds like the AST cap. Probably the rise in temperature and pressue when the engine is shut off is overwhelming the cap spring.

Mr_7

what does that mean is it ok? i cant understand why it does it to mine and not others?

Mr_7

wait kno the ast cap is the one in the middle this comes from the one under the left arch trim with a black plastic cap and dipstick

arrouk

have you checked the pipe from the ast to the expansion tank, i know mine used to bubble a bit after a thrashing but if this pipe has a split or has blown off instead of filling the expansion back up it will just dump coolant.

hope this helps

No, the AST cap spring has probably weakened with age and needs to be replaced. The AST is the small vessel attached to the back of the intercooler.
