Can some single turbo FD owners help me out here please.
How do you keep the noise level down with single tubby and decat pipe?  Lots of trackdays have 95-105 db limit, what exhaust set-ups can you use to stay inside the limit?  :cheers

Fraid you will have to invest in a silenced mid pipe and a good backbox. One of the best on the market is SMB [from Aus] if you have a look on FDUK there is a group buy going on atm.

What about a silenced mid-pipe from dragon, together with FEED Sonic back box? would this set up be quite enough?
Was thinking of getting a high flow cat, but cant afford one :(

J.j., definately go with a silenced midpipe... I can highly recommend the Dragon Silenced Midpipe as I have one on my car along with a HKS catback 3 - 3.5inch I think... its not loud at idle or driving at around 3-4k rpm (still running in) .... the build quality on the Dragon Silenced midpipe is excellent and it doesnt restrict flow :)

I can vouch for the build quality of the dragon silenced midpipes, very well put together. They\'ve just revamped them recently so they\'re quieter too!

Was about to order a dragon silenced mid-pipe, but wasnt sure how track friendly that set up would be.

Keep the noise down, are you sure?!?!?!?!:Laugh The louder the better!!:Laugh
Can\'t you get one of those add on race mufflers which fits in the end of the exhaust?? Or have you tried that route already?? You just blot it on before the db test then remove at the end of the racing.Must be the cheapest option..

John Yorke

Quite alot depends on where you are power wise, if you are aiming for 400+atw [or have that] it all comes down to flow rate, most backboxes available from UK or Japan suffer with good flow rate and no reduction in noise [sub 110db] or are sub 110db but restrict flow rate [ie: 420+atw becomes 360ish:eek: ]
Having spent loads of time [and money] trying to get to a sound level that is acceptable for the track the only setup I have found sofar that will not reduce power and keep me under 95db is a silenced midpipe and the SMC backbox, on the yellow car I ended up with a 100mm feed system that was silenced midpipe and backbox, this flowed enough for me to get 460atw but noise was still a problem [was around 110db static]
There is nothing worse than turning up for a trackday and being blackflaged on the 1st lap. Single turbo setups are loud and performance suffers with increased backpressure a badly setup exhaust  can give very reduced power levels.

Was told by the guy doing my car not to do that, so ..............................
Might do that as an extra on top of the set up though to really bring the level done :Laugh

So for a 380-400 fwhp car with dragon silenced mid-pipe and feed sonic cat-back would be quite close to 110 db then  :(

Which mid-pipe was this?

:cheers

If you wanna reduce the noise level when you just cruise around you might try and use Apexi DECV

Hope it helps...can\'t comment on track use though....

A fore runner of the Dragon mid pipe;) This will become a bigger problem over the next couple of years, all these \'PC do gooders\' spoiling all our fun trying to close down the airfields, introducing stupid noise levels, dont think it will be that long before they try to ban any form of motorsport especialy for the general public, we will all end up going to work on \'green\' public transport or private electric cars - so long as we share with the anyone who needs to get a lift.
Sorry rant over:chat

My fingers are itching to order this. On a road car this looks like it would do a grand job.

J.j.

What about if I just leave the cat on? would that kill too much power?

a.evdokimov

Stylus, I might have one if you want one quite soon. Just drop me an email if you\'re interested - anatoly.evdokimov@gmail.com
