Hi,

I am about to possibly buy a \'92 type R and have been told over the phone that the only thing wrong with it is that it has a \'notchy\' gear change between 4th and 5th.

Now I have read about the 3rd gear one and synchro problems but just wanted to know how expensive this sounds to fix - if its not something put right simply.

Any comments on possible things to check when I go see the car (in relation to the gear change) would be a preciated :)

Thanks

Edd

is there no one can help me out? :(

Sorry mate,

notchy gears could be just low oil level in the gearbox, could be clutch system needs bleeding if there is air in the system as it\'s hydraulic, could be fingers on the clutch cover that are going. or it could be the gearbox is on it\'s way out. But if it\'s happening on all gears I doubt it would be the gearbox.

My gearbox is notchy when cold between first and second, but very slick once it\'s warmed up, so I\'m guessing a better oil will help.

Anyone got any recommendations for gearbox oils?  Whatabout slick 50 additives?

Yea mine is the same, When the car is cold it is a bit notchy between 2nd and 3rd.  As soon as she is warm the gear change is fine.

I have had the oil checked and changed, also clutch cylinders changed when i had a new clutch put in.

If it was a bad box, wont i have the problem hot or cold?

I doubt there\'s a problem with the box.  Do you know what oil you\'ve got in it?

What oil (& additives) do other people run in there geaboxes?  What do people use in their diifs?
