So had one of those mad hair brain schemes that you do and wanted to get a more balanced look to the back of the Rex.

US and Jap versions have a reversing light both sides, but UK spec had one fog light and one reversing light which is quite frankly pants and doesn\'t illuminate much at all.

So having a cracked left hand light cluster spare, and recently brought 2 more off ebay, I set about butchering and cutting and heating and peeling out the guey glue to make one of these (see pics below)

All four sidelight bulbs are dual fillament, but no connetion is made on the centre ones for the 21W filament - so these will be pressed into service as the new fog lights, and the old fog light will now be a reversing light :)

Found these on an American site last week and they look pretty swish.

There might be a problem of the lights being too bright though.

Prof

You could do that with the UK ones - just take the diffusers out - but they look odd, as all the light comes from the middle.

I will be trying those LED replacement bulbs - will have to get a night time shot once there in.

i have tried the led bulbs [stop/tail] and they are not as bright as standard bulbs and you can not see that they are led as the red len\'s obscures them.

i\'m not impressed with them but i like the look of the yank lights kron has found [do you have any idea on the price]?

More info on how to achieve this please:

Take the diffusers out???

Prof

Bump to top pics - the diffusers are the clear (smokey clear) plastic pieces in the middle of the picture - one covers the indicator corner lens section, and the larger one covers the rear lights - the cut out is where the fog/reversing light lens goes.

To take the lights apart, you can do on of two things (take the wiring loom off first:Hammer ) :

1)  Immerse the light in very hot water - this will soften up the sticky glue compound that holds the outer lenses in place - they take quite a bit of getting off - but you can clean and debug them when done :yes

2)  Use a powerful hairdryer or a heat gun (no flames) and work your way around the edge - prying the stuff out with a screwdriver.

NOTE:  There are 3 small screws that also hold the outer lenses at the bottom.

Once the main lenses are off, the diffusers are just held in by tabs in the corners - hairdryer will get these out.

I used translucent bathroom sealant to put it back together and seal the lights again.
