I think if you\'re already thinking of the resale value you may be making a mistake. Whichever route you go it\'ll cost and cost again.

I\'m sure I\'m like most others and don\'t keep a tab. It costs what it costs and if I ever have have to part with it I won\'t be doing any sums because it will have been worth every last penny.

Be warned you can\'t run a rex on a shoestring, unless you park it up and use it a couple of days a month and after you start to drive it you can\'t stop.

What sort of quote have you got on insurance?

Slightly off topic, but I\'ve heard that RX7\'s aren\'t too comfortable for tall people, any truth to this? I\'m around 6\'2", won\'t be too much of a squeeze for me will it?

Hoping to get up to Jimmy\'s in Norwich at some point to have a proper look at a decent Rex, (they have a nice black Type R up there) but it\'ll save me a journey if I\'m going to be too tall for one! ;)

Cheers,

Ben

Im 6\'4" they are hopeless. Mine has a modified steering column to give me enough room, I have had ones with standard interiors but I needed a 280mm steering wheel just to fit in it. The main problem is the steering wheel just sits too low for anyone over 6 foot. Having skinny or short legs would help, I have neither :D

johnf

I think ity\'ll depend on your proportions, long legs to short body etc.

[I\'m not suggesting you\'re deformed or anything]

I\'m just 6ft and have no problem at all but I know some ppl on here have made alteration to seat runners.

Doh.. Guess I should have thought of that before I made my mind up about getting one! :Giggle

Probably worth a trek up there I suppose, its around 70 miles according to the AA road map from Suffolk, which\'ll be a nice run on my bike either way.

I was set on a Nissan S15 Silvia, until I heard a modified Rex near Cockfosters on my way to work, the burble of his exhaust gave me chills! :chat

I\'m about 6\'2", 18st, rugby player build rather then a fatty (apart from the little \'pot\' in the middle ;) Average leg / body ratio I would say.. - Not that I play rugby btw, or any sport in general, unless you can call playing the Xbox360 a \'sport\'.. :p

We\'ll see, if its not too much of a squeeze I have no objections to getting a 280mm steering wheel, had to do that with my old Mini years ago - that giant bus drivers wheel was awful! :driving

Thanks guys :Thumbs-up

I\'m sure we must have a member on the forum who is closer for you and let you have a trial \'fit\', save you the trip.

Just try it, give a more accurate location and see what happens, we\'re a freindly bunch.

I live in Sudbury, work in London (just off J24 of the M25 in Cockfosters Depot) - Wouldn\'t mind a trial fit if anyone lives closer, it\'d give me a chance to pick their brains about what to look out for etc too :)

Thanks John, that was a good idea :D

[Edit] Just remembered, better update my user profile too eh! Showing my old location still :Hammer

Quote from: A7NTYIf your too cheapskate to buy a good one (which fetch £8,000+ generally imho) then you simply wont be able to afford to run it, we are not talking about a honda civic here mate but a thoroughbread sports car. Hate to be brutal but im trying to be honest.

i appreciate your honesty, but i dont fully understand your statement, if i dont spend an extra £3000 i wont be able to run it? i was thinking if i saved £3000 it\'d be easier to run it lol, and i have been thinking long n hard about running costs, but i work and live in the city center, we have 2 cars so i only use my car for fun, ive got a wee 106 rallye that ive spent at least £5k on over the last 2 years just maintaining! i dont mind maintaining a car but i dont want to spend 8k on my first decent powered rwd car when, to be honest, the chances of wrapping it are pritty dam high! lol

hmm might start looking at other cars, the RX is starting to sound worse than my 106 lol

I think the bottom line is when buying a Fd or any car for that fact, you tend to get what you pay for. With the occasional bargin to be had, i would tend to agree with most people that if your buying an FD and thinking of resale value then your going down the wrong route already, when i sold my FD after 2years of owning it i\'m scared of thinking how much i lost!! (not that i\'m to fussed though, best car to own i recon!)

I will openly admit that the cost of running the Fd totaly caught me off gaurd! and thats why when i come to resale my Fd i was only going to sell it to someone who i knew could maintain it (which i did!).

just my thoughts though

Ah you see A7NTY you\'ve been on here giving \'freindly\' advice - you just don\'t know what a nice bloke you really are.

You must just get upset with all the holiday makers that come down to see you this time of year.

you\'s have taken it the wrong way, i didnt mean resale, i meant what the car was worth, why spend £7k on a car when i can get the same one for £5k?

Rixio

Id love to know where all these "perfect examples of RX7\'s are for £5k" infact scratch that i want "a highly tuned one for £7k!"

Exactly my point!

RX7... The Deep Pocket Rocket...

I think FleaBay is to blame for alot of these cheap RX7\'s! also a lot of traders are bringing in cheap FD\'s from Japan and then not spending the time to make sure they are up too spec, they just seem to be after a quick couple of quid!

I do truely believe that 99% of the time you get what you pay for, from previous experience of owning an Fd i would rather spend £7k on one and not have to keep repairing it, then £5k and keep repairing it. Mind you not to say that a £7k one won\'t go wrong.

At the end of the day i always kept myself a kitty of £1k for breakage\'s on the FD. But i suppose everyone has to learn in their own ways.
