Hi Guys,

Been reading the board for a while but only just bought an RX7 and have a couple of small problems!

When cold the clutch is perfect and on the motorway it seemed fine but I noticed when driving around town with more accelerating, braking and gearchanges, the pedal seemed to go more and more slack, i.e. there would be no resistance to most of the pedal travel until eventually it would just go to the floor and not come back. After leaving the car for a while it goes back to normal again!

I can\'t see any leaks on either of the cylinders or pipework so am I right in thinking it just needs a bleed?

The second problem is that the car sometimes runs out of puff in highish revs, i\'m pretty sure the second turbo doesn\'t always \'kick in\'. Is this possible? There is definitely a difference in sound when it happens! Are they electronically controlled? For example in third gear sometimes it pulls well to the redline and other times it won\'t even get above 6,000rpm, like it hits a brick wall.

The engine has good and balanced compression so any tips on what to try, any common causes for these issues would be greatly appreciated!

I appologies if these questions have been asked before, I had a search but couldn\'t find anything conclusive!

Thanks

Hi and welcome.
Check the fluid level, then bleed it, also look under at the gear box where the slave cylinder is make sure no leaks, and make sure the 2 bolts that hold the folk/lever that operates the clucth is on nice and tight, check footwell on drivers side as if the leak is on the master cyl, it sometimes leaks through the fire wall and under the carpet, it could also be that you have old hoses and need replacing if stretching/bubbling. Your clutch and barkes are off one cyl, so very important you sort this as you dont want your brakes to be letting you down.

Yes its common for the 2nd turbo not to spool up, again lots of reasons for it, most likely a vacum leak on the many hoses you have, or maybe solenoid valve, sometimes the hoses colapse loosing boost, as they are not electric but operate on vacum.

Thanks for the reply Gary! I shall investigate, I did check all those areas for leaks bit didn\'t look to see if the flexi hose part was bubbling. I shall check that tonight thanks!

Phil, its most likely you need to replace the rubbers in the Clutch Master Cylinder.

I bled the clutch and brakes through with some new fluid and that feels much better, and the problem hasn\'t come back. I also found a one way valve split in 2 and a lose boost hose, with that fixed I now have 2 turbos again as well! :)
