gt35/40 single turbo, can anyone tell me about it.

i have never been sure if i wanted to go single as i dont want/like the lag etc i heard this is quite a torquey turbo and kicks in early ish.  is this true?
what sort of BHP could you get out of this, with all the right gear of course?
what are the other options around this price range (advantages-disadvantages)?

cheers

35/40 is your 400hp turbo it will do this all day and has proberly the best Responce for this job.Just so you don\'t get confused the GT3540 is basicly a GT35R that has had a T4 Turbine housing Modified to fit, this gives it more flow and suits the VE of the Rx7 engine more than the std T3 housings.

But you need to figure what Hp you want to run before you buy becouse there are Diffrent Hot sides (turbine Housings) etc that will change the Spool/Power behavior of the Turbo. e.g. a .86 Hot side is one of the smallest t4 Footprint Housings, this will make it spool realy Quick but will restrict your top end and max HP or there is a 1.3 which will give you good high end power but the responce will suffer. So if you want to run lowish hp and want it to spool as fast as poss you run the Small Housing if you want say 400hp (flywheel) you\'ll want somthing like a .96 or even a 1.15 and then if your looking to gain more flow than that you\'d proberly be best with a Bigger turbo.

The Turbo its self is just starting to get Tweeked, you can Buy a Gt35R of A-spec in the US thats been modified to spool like a std T3 Gt35R and flow like a GT40R if you are looking for a Kit you can\'t go wrong.

i have a GT35/40 with a .96 hot side and i love it,  it isnt too laggy but pulls really well.  It makes 460 FLWHP at a touch under 1.2 bar.

I have had a TD08 (similar to T88) on mine and TO4E on my FD and this is definately the best set up in my opinion if you dont want an out and out drag car.  You can drive around in 4th gear at 35 mph and it will just pull all the way but doesnt die off till 7500 rpm.  Easy to get rebuilt also, unlike the T78 T88 range.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

what would really be the difference in pic up (lag) with a larger hot side.  and would it then produce a higher rwbhp.  i dont want to go crazy but i would like to be able to get over 400 RWbhp, is this turbo capable?

cheers for advice guys, anyone else got one that would like to share there opinion, i would very much apreciate it.  as now its rebuild time need to have a think asap.

i\'ve just fitted a T04E to mine an it\'s fantastic. I was really worried about loosing the drivability an smoothness of the twins but it spools up really quick - about 3200rpm an produces a lot more power through the midrange an top end. I love it and deffo recomend it. I use the car every day an it\'s perfect for that as well as Showing M5\'s the way home :Thumbs-up. only produces 310 - 340 rwhp tho

lol, anyone know the differences between the t04 range and the gt35/40

the gt range is newer technology with slightly different blades to allow the flow without the lag.

You could see 400 rwhp with my set up at about 1.3 bar i reckon.  I had 380 atw\'s.
If you had a slightly bigger hot side, maybe the next size up, you may see that figure easier but you would have less of a power band due to lag.

im not sure about the GT35R but mine is supposed to be a GT40. The place i bought it from said it had the same compressor size as a GT35R but without being ball bearing. This made 380rwhp on my car at 1bar and could probably see over 400rwhp at 1.2bar. Think the turbo kit was just under $2K with all the other bits (manifold/wastegate/screamer pipe)

Thers alot of diffrences, The main three are t4\'s never had a RB core and the cross section of the Blades on the GT\'s are Aerofoil\'s as oposed to the old flat steel bent to shape and the metals used are lighter and can withstand higher temps in th GT\'s

Yep the GT40 is quite alot bigger and cheaper, alot of people prefer the Plain bearing type turbo\'s becouse they are alot cheaper but about 500 Rpm slower in spool and the Responce is also slower but if you are not putting one side by side with a Rb unit you\'ll not notice the diffrence. Plus you don\'t have to worie about restricting the oli presure to the turbo etc??

antnicuk

plus,   when you send a tip seal through the turbine they are a lot cheaper to rebuild!  The RB units generally need the whole lot needs replacing

Yeh!!! Whats a Rb core about £600 plus fitting? a std bearings about £400 all done. Thats why the Rally guys did\'nt use RB\'s for years (you can\'t take them apart to check between rallys)
