Hi I love Rx-7\'s but I don\'t actually own an Rx-7 I would love to its just there are a few things I\'m worried about::confused:

1. When roughly do you need to rebuild the engine and what is the price range??

2. Is the engine bay fairly easy to get around and work on, or is it complex like the Mitsu\'s

3. What is an estimate month\'s petrol bill? (I know its not going to be amazing like a ****e fiesta diesel but I still wanna know)

4. Are body parts for the car expensive or are they understandable?

I\'m 19 and not a billionaire so I just wanna have a better understanding of the car before I\'m ready to buy I live in Milton Keynes so if there is anyone who owns or knows about any rex meets in the area please let me know.

Thanks alot you guy/girls for helping:Thumbs-up

1.  The accepted rebuild figures are at 60000 miles and budget for £3000.  Of course both figures depend on a lot of factors.  Non modified/stressed engines can last a lot longer.  Rebuild prices depend on whether it is rebuilt before it blows or after (more damage).

2.  I would say the engine bay is complex but I am not one for DIY-ing.

3.  My monthly petrol bill is about £50 but I hardly use mine :)  A common reason for people selling is the running costs.

4.  Parts from Mazda would be very expensive, seconds hand/reconditioned  parts from vendors seem to be reasonably priced but your insurance won\'t see it that way.  If it\'s an import they will charge you more.  Have you looked into insurance yet?

Take a look at this thread for very useful information on purchasing a rotary: -

having had an EVO V before the RX the engine is more complex than mitsi and hell of a lot less room to work in

depends on mileage/how its driven mid to late teens i reckon average consumption
item 1 do a search on rebuild costs varies when engine goes pop
apart from a new bonnet cant comment on body part cost

I\'ve looked into insurance and because of my area Its not to bad for a twin turbo rocket so I\'m not worried about that I am worried because I will be driving in some weekdays aswell I know its a good weekend car but I wanna use it all the time would I be better of with a supra because thats what I was told but I don\'t really want one I love the sexy look of a rex

In my zed I used to pay £60 a week when I was using it everyday (aprox40 miles). Thats about what you will pay in a Supra as well. I reckon if I used the Rx7 I\'d pay another £20 a week. In some ways it balances a bit though because in a Supra or a Zed you\'ll be going through two sets of rear tyres and a set of fronts a year (aprox £1000, don\'t buy cheap ones by the way) as they are heavy. The rx7 is lighter so less tyre intensive but I don\'t know for definate yet!

To be honest they are all very expensive cars to run. With any of them you should have a couple of grand available for repairs as above 60k you have to consider the possibility of turbo failure, auto gearbox failure (if you have them), etc,etc You are best off getting one thats already had these things done along with cooling upgrades etc. Also make sure you are buying from the higher end of the price range ie don\'t buy a rx7 if you\'ve only got 5k unless you\'ve got a couple more grand to get it up to speed.

OK so when I get my rex I\'m gonna need to do a rail modification to make the seat go back alittle further does anyone know how to do this also I will need the smaller racing steering wheel.

What type of things should I look out for when buying a rex i.e recent engine build??
