Privelege Insurance came up with a good deal on a 2000 RX7 type RS. (just picked it up at the weekend)

Full NCB with no convictions
37 yr old, married (Wife as named driver reduces the premium!)
5000 mile annual limit (didn\'t affect price much)
CAT1 alarm and tracker fitted (required by underwriters)
No modifications, garaged.
SDP/Commute usage
Standard excesses.

£439 fully comprehensive.

The interesting bit is that the RX7 will be a 2nd car so most insurance companies force you to start from 0yr NCB.  After phoning to cancel my exiting policy for a supercharged MX5, they let me have full NCB on BOTH cars (only one will be transferable in future). This works out way cheaper than other quotes received, even when putting the MX5 on classic car insurance.

I pay double that with Admiral-similar personal spec to you
I wonder how much they would quote if was a single turbo??

For a supercharged MX5 1.8L, 1994, LHD import with 35% more power than stock, they only charged £240 for fully comp, 10K miles.

They didn\'t care what I did engine-wise, just the overall % power increase.

FYI: Adrian Flux insurance didn\'t insist on a tracker but came down to £474 for the RX7 as the only car. (No NCB for a second car)

A-plan just came in all the usuall mods for a single turbo £395 fcomp seemed a good deal to me.

A 2000 Type RS? !
How did you get that into the country?

It was imported by Newera  before the E-SVA restrictions (2004?).  I\'m the 3rd UK owner.

I originally wanted a 1999 or later model so trawled through the E-SVA rules to look for a loophole, even considered converting to LHD and back again, or buying a 1999 and waiting until 2009 to use it!

Decided it was best to buy one that had been imported before E-SVA, had to wait 6 months for one to come up, then four turned up on autotrader (one RS and three RB-S). There is still a 1999 RB-S on there but its been modified and the compression is down to 6.0.

There is an auto 1999 RB near Peterborough going for £9495. I had a test drive and thought it was in poor condition though, engine stalled twice, coolant leaked and a thee was a fair bit of minor body damage (new bumper/spoiler/exhaust/fog-lights needed) but the interior was very good. One UK owner since new. Project car for somebody to convert to manual?

According to a spreadsheet I got from Bonsai cars (very helpful) for recent auction prices, a 2000 RS already in the UK turned out to be no more expensive than importing one.
