Anyone know a ball-park price for a respray - just one colour, matt black, but has bodykit etc.

A respray can cost anywhere between £1500 to as high as you want really.

Find a reputable local sprayshop, a good one, and get a quote.

Matt black will bump the cost up I should think as they still have to spray the car as normal but then apply a special matt laquer... and remember DON\'T POLISH IT!!

yeah 1500 should get a same colour job.
If you wanna change the colour expect to pay more.
Also remember if you want a really good job youd be better off taking out the engine and getting the pay painted too

Donato

you should be able to get a respray for cheaper than that, but you have to remember you get what you pay for  ith resprays.

are you in a position to do the prep work yourself? As this could save you money if you can..

I have to agree you get what you pay for, Its the labour involved, i spent a Month getting a car ready for paint. If you want a quick job where its painted over your old colour then 1k-2k depending on the cars condition etc, but if you want a proper job (bare metal etc) you\'re looking more like 4-5k and if you want custom paints etc as well then you\'re talking 10k

Be a little carfull doing all your own Prep, i\'ve had it done to me a few times and its usaly not up to my std, so i am left to decide, Do i paint it? or do i get it right before painting it knowing we won\'t be getting payed for it? I\'d say you would be best of stripping the car but leave the Prep to some one that can do it to there standards and you\'ll recive a car that Every one is happy with as oposed to getting it back with the importal words "well you prep\'d it??"

Theres ways of saving money on Repaints and still getting the desired Job, You are best talking to the Painter who will be doing the Job and get a list of all the stuff he wants off to do the Job, This will save you 26 hours labour before you start in Building and stripping, when your talking say £25 an hour (on the low side) thats like £650 off your bill.

Take it from me.... Painter for 15 years.

If you want my Advice don\'t go for the cheapest qoute, have a look at some of the work thats knocking around the shop for an idea of there level of quality.

And most of all Don\'t go for a Bodyshop becouse of the Cars thay have in...... I know of a place near me who has a realy bad rep, i know how bad they are as i\'ve put some of there jobs right in the past, if you where to drive past you\'d see at least 200k\'s worth of high end cars sat out side, but i would\'nt let them paint my Fence let alone my FD.

My cars currently in the body shop being prepped-will have a pearlescent red with yellow or gold top coat laquer-this adds a subtle change.
It will cost me around 2-2.5 grand-engine in.
Luckily the place i\'m using has done other FD\'s owners here.

I had my car resprayed by a rotary specialist, and all they did was spray over the top of the existing paint.  When we had a fight with the tyre wall, you could pull off the new paint and see perfect silver underneath.  Great way to advertise your sponsors though.....a sort of negative representation of their name.  But as for quality, it was a terrible job, so I guess you get what you pay for.

i recon if you do all the prep work yourself then you could be lokoing at about £7/800. I dont see why it would cost more than that. Ive had cars sprayed before in the past and the last one cost me £200 for a standard rover pearl. i did all the prep work though, all priming and cutting it back after.

Matt black is oging to cost about £30 a litre max really. then the lacquer ontop. It will take about 3 days labour id have thogh if the prepping is done so even at £25 an hour thats about £600 labour.

Grizzly

If your talking Water its more like £70 a liter, good laquer is about £300 for 4 liters, good high build is about £100 for 3 liters.

As i\'ve said before be carfull doing your own prep..... if you cut corners you wont get any come back if it starts coming off etc and if you put matting base in the laqure it will have to be a nice job as you can\'t flat and polish it.

richard cash

ive never used water so dont know about that but ive used polyester loads if times and the result is as good if not better than most factory jobs. And thats using £38 for 7.5litres of 2K paint. The high build primer i use was £35 for 4 litres and again that seems great, infact ive shown a couple of bodyshops in my area the stuff and they have switched to using it.

The primer and lacquer is churchills paints and the basecoats i use are from either an ICI, tetrosyl or mex meyer schemes.

saying all that though i always flat down after painting as the finish is amazing. I was thinking though grizzly, ive never tried this but when i flattened down my black bonnet i really liked the matt effect, although i had tiny scratches from the P2000 paper. Couldnt he not paint it with regular gloss lacquer and then flat down with say P2500/3000 or even higher and then that would give the matt finish he requires

doing your own prep work is better imo as you know exactly what has been done. If he goes as far as the pre-priming stage then he can take it to his bodyshop and then when they give it the ok hes saved loads of money and they are happy with the finish prior to paint. That way they cant turn around and fob him off with saying its shoddy prep work.
