Right just noticed the other day theres like a wearing noise coming from the clutch/gearbox i think ?

When you start the car you can hear it but when you press the clutch it stops ?? release bearing perhaps ???

Any ideas, sorry to be vague but best described as a scratching noise / wearing noise like something turning but rubbing slightly ??

Cheers

Gurj  :(

Forgot to add no difference in driving to accleration, just can hear  mainly when stationary

Had several FDs, and both do/did this. I seem to remember this has been asked before (as with most things!! :chat ) and the general opinion was that it is normal. This is on a std clutch, by the way.

I see you are now keeping the FD - good luck with your next mods (bang goes the bingo winnings, hey?! :yes )!

The clutch is a OS Giken twin plate jobbie  ;)

Sounds like the release bearing Gurj, your used to the car so it won\'t be twin plate rattle as you\'ll know what that sounds like.

Gurj the release bearing is very easy to change and will cost you about £45 for a new one, however the gearbox does have to come off. which is about an hour to 2 hours work. Its pretty heavy to normal humans but i reackon you could bench press your car so shouldnt be a problem for you. If you fancy taking it off yourself, i dont mind swinging over to derby to help out. But i hate the smell of gearbox oil, it smells like turkey :3Confused  :Thumbs-up

TBH not very good at diy stuff so will ask a local performance mechanic to have a look and see what we can do, decent guy so shouldn\'t cost too much as i know him quite well  :Thumbs-up

Thanks for the replies peeps

it\'s proberly transmission noise, the release bearing will only be noisy when you press the clutch, unless it\'s proper nackerd

Put it this way the noise has just appeared so obviously something is a miss, so will be getting it checked out. Have a strong feeling it is the release bearing as only making noise when car is out of gear and clutch is released, once cutch is pressed noise disappears  :3Confused

Any update on this?  Mine does the same.

Like the last poster, I was told that it\'s only the release bearing if it gets noisy when you press the clutch pedal? If it goes quiet when you press the clutch it\'s some bearing (can\'t remember which) in the gearbox.

Not had a chance yet to get it examined, but had Wav round the other day fitting water injection and he agrees its the realease bearing thats going as sound disappears when clutch is pressed otherwise drives as normal

No, it\'s the other way round. I had an XR3i with a dodgy release bearing. Pressing the clutch in would silence it. Got it replaced & the noise was gone.

I had the same problem, but when i had a different clutch fitted and a new release bearing, it doesnt do it anymore:Tongue1
