Well, was out tonight. Pulled over & the engine cut. I had the aircon running, and it does tend to lower the revs.

Anyway, tried to restart it, but it was having none of it. Decided to let it cool for a while, but it still didn\'t want to go. Engine was trying to fire but not quite getting there. Left it longer, tried it with fuel relay out & it was doing the same.
My mate came out & we connected some heavy duty jump leads up to his L200. Was still doing the same, though. Tried it with fuel relay out & it\'s still trying to fire.

In the end, we decided to hook it up to his towbar & bump started. It started running from that straight away, but as soon as I tried to let it idle, it cut back out. So we bumped it again & I drove it steadily back home.

Now, on the way back it was refusing to go past 2500/3000 rpm. It would really pull back hard & then backfire loudly. Seemed to be whenever the turbos are trying to spin up, it doesn\'t want to pull!

Got it home & it has the same starting problems!

So, anyone have any ideas on this. Sorry for posting such a long story for something that I could probably have explained in a couple of lines, but I thought it might be better to give an exact description of what was happening.

Thanks :Thumbs-up

What do you mean by "fuel relay" ?

dj_dee99

Ooops, sorry. I mean the fuel pump relay in the black box near the slam panel.

Brett

Was it running roughly too?
What exactly were you doing prior to pulling over?
Brap Brap Brap Brap

ok, if you think it was flooded, then removing the fuel pump relay does NOT stop the pump from pumping. The relay only adds/removes a resistor into the fuel pump circuit, I think its to change the speed or the pressure.

You need to remove the egi fuse if you want the fuel to stop pumping.

Sounds to me like you dont have a flooding problem, though. I think you have a massive air leak somewhere. It also sound like the ecu needs to be reset - remove a battery terminal, press the brake pedal, and reconnect.

What ECu do you have and what mods do you have?

I had a similar prob with the backfiring, check your battery terminals & the wires from them, I checked all the connections coming fron the ternails tightened one every so slightly & the prob was gone

I still have the standard ECU at the moment. Only mods are exhaust, filters & dump valve.

Tried to start it this morning and it was having none of it. Was smelling strongly of fuel, too.

It wasn\'t really running "rough" after we bump-started it, just wouldn\'t really go much above 3000 rpm, where it just kept heavily pulling back & massively backfiring. But if I\'d have let the revs drop right down it would have cut out, which it did once I\'d reached home & got on the driveway. But it seemed to be driving normally in those low revs, other than that.

As per blitzboy,  but also check the vacume line to the fuel pressure reg,  if it isnt reading boost or vacume, it wont increase/decrease fuel pressure.  So at idle you will have too much fuel pressure and when it starts to boost, you wont have enough.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

hi

can someone tell me where the map/boost sensor is plz

nikp

Quotemake sure the vacuum signal hose has not come off the map/boost sensor

I would say this too.

nikp

The map sensor is here:

dj_dee99

I hadn\'t thought of checking the map sensor. Unfortunately the vac pipe is still securely connected.
Where is the fuel pressure regulator, so I can check that vac line, as that sounds like a likely suspect.

antnicuk

its on the end of the secondary rail under the inlet manifold i\'m afraid
