Yeah his standard gear box blew up back when he was running about 250ATW, he has recently had a box and quaife ATB fitted, cost him 1800 without labour trade price ( so i guess about 300 for the diff and 1500 for the GB trade)

Its actually really good at putting the power down. It tends to either spin both of the wheels or grip nicely. You do get a bit of torque steer at first but once the ATB cuts in its pretty sweet - torque steer is only really an issue in 4th (it spins both wheels in 3rd rolling start) where it starts to load and unload on one wheel if the ground isnt perfectly flat and smooth.

another guy i hang round with is having one built at the moment, he\'s got something like 340 mil 6 pots on the front, 300 mil 4 pots on the back, 2.5 litre zetec block, race head from burton, GT38R turbo and nitrous - aiming for circa 450 bhp with no gas! Its black with matt black MO\'s in 18 inch, looks mean as **** :)

I\'ve got a video of my mates RS spinning up on the motorway, the speedo looks like a rev counter! ill try and get it posted up sometime once ive extracted it from my camera.

Yep enough dollar and anything can become a weapon. I suppose the appeal is humbling more expensive cars etc, but when you end up building something that costs more than the car you want to humble surely the point is moot?

Can\'t really understand going after massive power in a FWD car...my money would be going straight into a saph cossie if i had to pick a Ford. They weigh about the same as an FD (surprising considering the size of the thing) and that engine is awesome.

I think during its development one of the key performance criteria the engineers had to adhere to was to make the thing produce 90% of its torque by 1800rpm. A friend has one running 355bhp (albeit on a turbo that won\'t hold boost...) which doesn\'t sound a lot but the torque is mental. Another friend has an E46 CSL (circa 360bhp), and it won\'t get near the saph from any speed to any speed.

Have to admit i kinda despised Fords until going out in that, and now i have a lot of respect for the cossie. The other thing is you can find a car with a similar spec for about £5k now. :)

Anyway, back to topic...although it must be a little gutting to be beaten by something like that...don\'t forget however quick that RS becomes it\'s still a horrible looking car with a nasty image. Performance is very important, and no doubt he\'ll be telling all his PF mates...but a car is more than just a grag machine. A lot of the FDs on this forum are probably miles quicker than, say, a Vanquish S...but the Aston has some characteristics completely foreign to an FD.

You\'ve still got a fantastic car, a complete package. In due time i\'m sure you\'ll fix her up and never look back but in the meantime enjoy the FD for what it is mate. :)

The video you have posted belongs to a friend of mine called Christian. The other guy is Gary hayward in the evo.

The rs is still a 1600cc with a gt28 turbo i think with around 280 hp.

They own a tuning company in norwich called apt and specialise in fords and nissans.

His rs would still struggle against a rex driven propperly. Dont forget that the evo is virtually stock engine wise and runs out of puff very quickly.

I cant see how evan a 2.1 zvh escort will make 600hp...

You rex will plow round a track far quicker than a rustscort eva will. the chassis is so flexable and lacks torsional rigidity. I have know a number of people with them and if you park it on a lump you cant open the doors LOL LOL LOL

Yep, I know :) I love it. I drove two people in it over the weekend and both commented how much it\'s like driving in a go-kart with the wrap-around feel of the interior and everything. I\'m taking perf slowly at the moment, I\'ll just get the stock turbos sorted, downpipe, decat, a street port and whatever to go with it during the rebuild and get it mapped.

I\'m half way through going very slowly over the whole car with Meguiars 3 stage...I\'ve done half the car in 4 hours with stage 1, the paint cleaner. The car obviously hasn\'t been properly cleaned since it came out of the factory! It\'s amazing how clean it looks now and it\'s only half done :D Can\'t wait to finish all 3 stages....got to get the popups redone as they\'re peeling like mad.

sdminus its not a 2.1zvh its a 2.5 with nitrous water injection RS500 intercooler race head and 1200cc injectors. Its pretty quick lol.

The other dude with the white car has had all new chassis rails put in etc, the car is pretty stiff - doesnt seem to flex much. To be honest, its not really much about handling in that car - it is as someone said about humbling more expensive cars. however, he is also correct that it costs more than the cost of the humbled car lol

The white car with 340hp has had about 16k put into it in mods alone, the black unfinished one has had over 50k and still going (albeit alot of that on custom CF seats, tailgate, bonnet etc)

Its actually a really nice looking car too i think :) but im partial to old skool styling as well as FD\'s.

its beyond me why anyone would spend the money putting that much power through a fwd car. Seems totally pointless.

You could say the same for the FD, lets face it these cars [rotories in general] are 10+ years old now and as a car are near on worthless [compared to BM\'s ect] I think it is a passion that we have and it is the same for a FWD F##d [why, I dont understand] and as a passion money tends to take a backseat if you have a goal to aim for, as someone said throw  enough money at anything and it will be quick, I just happen to believe that a FWD Dagenham dustbin WILL never be as quick as a FD given the same money being spent on both. :Giggle

Yeah a guy in our club has a turbo in his 2.5L Probe, aiming for 400bhp. There are 500bhp Probes running in the States running 11s quarters.

Still not an FD tho :D

Does that mean your swapping your FD for a probe then??? :Giggle  :Nono!  :rollin

Lol :D God no! I loved both my Probes, but after driving an FD there\'s just no going back. I actually drove my first car again on Saturday, my friend wanted me to move it around the car park....holy crap they feel like driving a bus compared to an FD. Still love them for what they are and my old cars but FD all the way now!

yeah I know where your coming from but it just seems such a waste to plow so much into tuning a fwd car to that extent. You can\'t put the power down properly, you can\'t go around corners properly and its just generally not a suitable way to use that kind of power. There is a reason that pretty much all manafacturers of high power cars use rwd or awd, it works better.
