If you look at my thread in this section i think the title is "elford pics"  you will see the general picture, It was only when i read an artical in a mag last week that the penny dropped.  the car runs out of go in the higher revs.  I have messed with new carb rebuild, checked all the turbo boost etc, Timing, advance,  then when reading it said that there were 2 different types of 12a, a small port to 81 100bhp and an extended port from 81  115bhp.  the later elford kits were deigned with the later engines even though they did do them on the early models as well.  So I would take a good guess that that is my issue.........................

will do a how too if people are interested?

Another elford! only just sorted the timing on mine, Why you think you got the wrong engine?

so who wants to play who got fastest 1st gen other than tim!  :god

no need for a welder ... looks like a hacksaw and a drill is required at the most :)

mmm will that be strong enough? i know theres not much pressure but i dont want anything falling on my engine!
i guess some plans would be good

i just copied the 3rd gen design that clamps a bar between the two ally supports, just cut a bar to length, drill and bolt. paint if desired.

jobs a gooden.

i found my elford ran out of puff at high end too, my problem was the stock fuel pump dropping pressure at high end, so i put a bigger one in with a fuel pressure regulator as the carb is really sensitive to pressure change.

Mummmm,  that sounds interesting..   I didnt give that much thought as it was carbed..   Do you think the small port engine also would give the same problem.   Mid range it pulls like a train untill about 5500 or so

erm to be honest you might not need to rev as high to make the power, i dunno with more boost mine wanted to rev higher and it pulls to about 6500 which is were i shift, i will tell you after i get a dyno run in!

but my standard system would lean out at high end as the fuel delivery was not high enough.

Or the fuel pump had the pressure but not the volume under pressure..... :)

Good to meet you on Sunday Ollie. Enjoyed watching your Elford going up the strip very nicely, your times were very good.

Here\'s my stats for my second (better) run:

Car X36
Reaction 0.600
60\'    2.627
330\'   7.430
MPH1   61.30
660\'   11.397
990\'   14.707
MPH2   81.25
1/4 mile   17.63

Got a reaction time of 0.18627 on my first ever run......yeeeehaaaa!  :burnout

Pretty chuffed with time considering the car is completely stock and no weight removed. Great fun. Nice to meet you in person and some of the other club members and rotary enthusiasts.

Domonic,  were you in the very tidy blue gen 1??    I did see you run a couple of times,   I was doing the timing all weekend, I actually walked past you when you were waiting to line up, but by the time i came back down you had already gone. i was going to have a chat with you.  Looked a very nice original car.

Ollie it was good to have a quick chat, you seemed in a bit of a hyped up state, dont know if it was nerves or stress.   It looked well down the strip though, very similar times to haywood and era\'s gen1\'s  i think....
