Tintin

I\'m thinking my twins may be junk due to some cracking and have been looking around for a cheap alternative

I\'ve already been told this turbo isn\'t going to get me the big figures I really wanted (even though he states its good for 650BHP been told its probaby good for about 350RWHP) but I\'m on a budget so I thought this may be a good comprimise

All the spec is here

I\'ve spoken to the guy and he is going to fabricate a manifold and down pipe to suit RHD cars , in return for me giving him any measurements I can he\'s goimg to do me a kit at cost $1340 , probaby be a couple of hundred quid postage but it still works out less than a grand

What do you think ??? it worth the money ??? all advise appriciated , I don\'t want to go for it and find its no good , also would it be possible to keep the manifold and down pipe if I wanted a bigger turbo when more funds become available in the future ???

i\'m not too sure about this to be honest, saw a turbos listed ages ago (i think is on here some where) that used the exact same pictures. The guy said he was in the uk but the pics showed a US plug in the wall. I\'ve been stung by ebay before and would not wish that on a fellow fd owner.
:Laugh LOL

yeah I know what you mean , this guy is in the states and seems genuine , I\'ll make sure I cover my back

Cheers

The thing is why is he selling a kit for less than it would cost for a Good Turbo?

It make you think there seconds or some thing?

John Yorke

Would not touch this with a bargpole, sounds to me like tears before bedtime, yet another pile of Ebay cr#p.
Someone please explain to me why you would be selling a brandnew turbo and kit for that price with no reserve. Sheesh the guy must be nuts, either that or it\'s a scam and wont last 5mins..................

Tintin

I know it does seem very very cheap , he does all the fabrication himself but obviously you can\'t see the quality

maybe I\'ll give it a miss , better safe than sorry

the guy has a lot of positive feedback the only prob is the pipework which will neeed fabrication but a good price for this kit none the less..but u will pay another roughly 25% duty and vat if u dont decalre it it will be uninsured and if damaged or lost it will be worthless..my last item tracked from the states was missing for 5 days and even though insured it is hassle

antnicuk

you would be better off with the complete TO4r kit that was for sale from slippers.

the turbo is unlikely to be set up for high boost, ie no 100 degree thrust bearing etc.

you could add another turbo at a later date but you would need a bigger waste gate.  Not worth the tears if you ask me.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

antnicuk

you could pick up a second hand set of twins (£200),  go non sequential for now, (remove all the crap thats not needed now(rats nest etc)), get the engine done, uprated clutch, fuel, intercooler etc,  then when a good turbo comes along get it,  you can spend the money on porting that you were going to spend on a turbo. You will probably see 320 rwhp if you are lucky and it will drive like a single.   You can always fit a single later but you cant get porting or engine work done later.

Tintin

I\'m liking that idea , didn\'t really think of getting a new set of twins , going non sequential was the first plan , rats nest is already history and I\'ve done all the research into it , that way if I have any money left after the rebuild with porting , and v mount I can spend it on the fuel system

Good call , better get looking for a set of twins in good condition , mind you mine might not be toast or is it a case of once they start to crack its only a matter of time ???

if pip is doing you engine,  ask him about a clutch,  an ebay jobby would probably do you while you are running twins but if your ultimate aim is 400 plus, then it will cost you for a decent clutch and dont believe the figures they quote on ebay us for the power they will take.....

Also get pip to look at your turbos and have a look, there must be loads of reasonable second hand twins around.

If yours only have to last 9 months or so, they might do.

Tintin

Cheers for that bud ,

Ulitimate aim is around 450RWHP but it may take me a while to get there so I may have gone through another clutch by then

Turbo pack is in the van with the engine , hopefully I\'ll get over to Pip tomorrow and see what he says , there is actually one crack thats quite bad

is it the manifold or the turbo housing,  its usually the manifold that cracks

Tintin

the cracks are around the base of the turbo housing , the bit that bolts to the manifold

Once Pip has had a look I\'m sure he can tell me if its junk or not , if its touch and go I\'m going to take a trip to AET and get them to have a look , they\'ve told me they\'ll check them over for free
