Anyone here go to drift days/ tracks in their FD? I haven\'t heard about many FD\'s being used in drift days/ tracks? Is this down to the various risks associated with the rotary engine, such as the risk of fuel starvation under hard cornering (risking engine running lean) and the fact that for drifting the car needs to maintain high revs (risking high temps)? Also heard someone say that the FD differential isn\'t ideal for drifting ?

mmm, I\'d be interested to know this as well.  Been thinking about getting into this.  Ive been on a few drifting forums - the main comment I got was \'are you mad to learn to drift in a car that nice!!\'  Apprently your front bumper can get a hammering from hitting cones   :Hammer

One person did mention something about fuel starvation in cornering - I thought it was rubbish as I would of thought you would achieve much higher G\'s on a track day whilst you have grip than drifting when you only have partial grip????  And ive never heard of anyone having that problem on the track?

Swirl pot will sort that problem out.

I suppose if you brace up your diff and gearbox and change diff mounts etc i can\'t see a problem there. Also they use different suspension settings for drifting. You wouldn\'t wanna drive your road car hard on the streets with those settings. Back end would be everywhere!!!

main reason I was asking is because I went onto the driftworks.co.uk forum where my friend (has a skyline r32) is a member of and I couldnt see any RX7\'s in the pictures from drift tracks / days... that made me curious so I did a search in the whole forum for RX7\'s and didn\'t find any drifters with a RX7...

No rx7 drifters you say ??

I dont think you\'ll find many beginners in FD\'s because there are a lot of other cars that are far easier to learn in , S13, S14, AE86, even FC\'s etc, . If I remember correctly the RX as standard isnt ideally suited to drifting and needs a few mods to get the best from it. Not to say it cant be done as per the other posts on this thread.

Here you go, good article on drift cars and potential cons of using an RX.

I mainly use mine for trackdays but recently decided to try my hand at drifting.I did Drift Academys Level 1 course then a couple of practice days at Silverstone in my FD.

John Chambers and Rob who is also driving RotaryArts RX-7 I believe told me the FD is not an easy car to learn to drift in.After much fustration and practice though I got to a reasonable standard and pulled off some long 2nd gear drifts with a decent transition to the next drift.Huge fun and gives you alot more confidence to really \'drive\' your RX-7

Getting an MX5 to abuse now.. :Giggle

Your FD seems pretty low. Just how did you find the Carousel at the ring?

First lap i came upon it and was like no f**kin way!!!!!!! so i went around it... then second time i just dropped in and prayed it wud stay on it... heard nothin but metal scraping and the bodykit on the driver side rear wheel arch took a bit of damage as the wheels came back up into the wheel archs!

Still goin tho...

thanks for the link to that article mate, have a few friends who are into drifting who will like reading that, especially since one has an r32 and the other a s14a... they are both very competitive against each other... lol..

V Mount kit... never above 76!!!!! madness the difference... After giving it death for 6-7 laps i pull in and can touch the turbo no bother... Shes only boostin to .7 of a kilo at the mo too...

My water temps get to the mid 90\'s during a hammering - the oil temps hit 110!!   :eek

Ive got a big rad and Trust FMIC.  My new Scoot bonnet is being fitted along with a new bumper that has a vent in the front.  Hopefully this will help keep my temps down
