Just a quick warning to anyone with aftermarket aluminium tyre valves fitted to their wheels, you know the ones, favoured by the max power brigade.

Anyway mine where on the Rex when i bought it and i have never really bothered to have a look at them, until today when i went to put some air in the back tyre, as soon as i put the air gun nozzle on the valve stem the top half just crumbled away and the little sprung insert shot out along with all the air in the tyre.

Stuck the spare on and went home and then checked all the others, one was ok, but the other two did the same, just feel apart when i went to undo the cap.

Now imagine your going down the motorway at a fair old lick and this where to happen!!!!!!!!! by the look of it i would think that the road salt or something has caused them to corrode, or they could just have been a dodgy batch, who knows, but if you do have some fitted i would advise you check them over just in case.

All my wheels are coming off pronto and good old fashioned steel and rubber valves are going on

We always stick to rubber valves really..dont look as good...but makes life alot easier.. one of the worst probs we find is metal cap on a rubber valve...a no go if you ask me...

Or if you go for a full metal valve...make sure it is a decent quality one as mentioned.

RAW

had mine replaced as they were leaking too. micheldever just put a shiny metal coloured sleeve over the rubber valve with a silver plastic rubber cap-hey presto-they look the same as the metal ones.

grinder

i know what you mean about these

i had a slightly diff prob - mine had corroded onto the valves - so i couldnt actually get them off

spent 2 nights cutting the valve caps off - stick to rubber ones ( and no ones steals these ! )
