Have a word with Ross - he is in Exeter - might be able to sort you a 2nd hand PFC. I\'m sure he would be happy to check it out for you [Evil Rotor]

Davegtt - i picked the car up for 7.6K, I brouhgt the mods and RXmotors fitted them while it was having a general service etc..

rextreme - thats cool looks lush, whas thinking along the lines of 5 spoke or multi spoke , but im strapped for cash and i need the ECU first.

Hi guys;
So here\'s a novice\'s question...
Why, exactly, would a 4" exhaust and no cat make the engine run lean?

I\'m a novice to rotary engines and have not modified many piston engines in the past other than building an 1835CC engine for a VDub I once had...:p

Wouldn\'t the induction side affect the lean/rich running of the engine? unless the exhaust had an O2 sensor removed that would not then provide feedback to the ECU.:(

I ask as my RX7 is coming in from Japan next week and has an aftermarket exhaust (not sure of the exact detail yet) but from the sounds of it I need to be wary of preignition if the exhaust bore gets too big?

Mikee, depending on the year of your car, you can get away with different mods.

Earlier models (before circa 96) only have an 8 bit ECU. This means that after doing say the de-cat and air filter you want to be looking at the ECU, as the standard unit will start to run lean. Its a programing thing.

On the later models (post 96) had a 16 bit ECU, this was better able to deal with a couple of mods (i.e. full de-cat and an air filter).

The fuel system is on say a full exhaust system and air filter with the correct fuelling mods can be ok. Just get it checked on a rolling road if you not sure.

Thanks for the dteails Fish.
My car is a \'92. Will check the ECU. As the car is ex-japan (who run with a higher octane?) would the ECU not have been a problem in the land of the rising sun?

Best get this checked out then. Hmm thanks for the details.

With these mods would anyone suggest a better ECU, the car is a 92 Effini, its also pre Cat,

HKS hardpipe kit

ARC intercooler and induction Box

Blitz Nur Spec racing exhaust

F-win racing aluminium radiator

Cheers for any help

Renesis

Unless you are doing anything really crazy to the car I would always recommend the Apex\'i Power FC aftermarket ECU.

It is the most used and therefore most supported replacement ECU for the FD.

Looks good, but I have to say those red wheel center caps look tacky.
