Hi All,

Just recently got my 96 RB fixed at WGT and Pip diagnosed a knackered cat. He gave me some options including fitting an aftermarket cat or a straight through down pipe. I went for the downpipe. He told me that even if I had gone for the new cat, I would need a replacement ECU as well so the emissions could be tweaked to pass the MOT. As an alternative if I can pass the car off as an early 95 then the emissions regs are more lenient. (I have a private reg so not obvious the year of manufacture). Now the seatbelts are dated 1995 so I wondered if this might be an option?

I suppose my question is what people with post 95 cars do to pass the emissions test? Do you all have replacement ECUs? Pip says even then it\'s a nightmare to tweak unless you know what you are doing!

Any advice how I can get through my next MOT???

Thanks

i thought that with pre 95 cars did not require a cat or they were more lenient on emissions?

As far as I am aware the rules are that pre Aug 92 cars don\'t require a cat and that 3rd gens made up to June 95 have more relaxed emissions regs. This is because the regs are only quoted in the emissions bible up to that date as this was the end of the official UK version hence it doesn\'t appear after that. Unfortunately if you have a post June 95 car then they will use a blanket emissions limit for all Jap imports which the 3rd gen will definitely fail unless it has aftermarket ECu etc. The best thing is to therefore try and convince my MOT station that my car was made pre June 95.....
