Hi,

My name is Richard Dredge and I do all the major buying guides for Practical
Classics magazine. The next guide I¹ve been asked to do is on the first and
second-generation RX-7 and I¹m posting here for two reasons.

The first (and probably the most difficult) is to track down an RX-7 that I
can put into the studio - these photos (and these photos only) will be used
to illustrate the five-page feature. The problem is that I need a car which
is in very good condition (it doesn\'t need to be concours) and to original
spec. Please note this * modified cars can¹t be used. Because the car will
be photographed in 100% artificial light against a white background the car
can¹t be white and ideally won¹t be black either.

I need to get as early a car as I can, preferably in a reasonably strong
colour. I also use just two photo studios; one is the National Motor Museum,
in Beaulieu, and the other is in Derby. The car needs to be photographed by
the end of the month, but it will be done at a time that suits the owner
(subject to the photographer being available). The shoot takes a whole day
and it can be done at a weekend if necessary.

The owner will have to take the car to the studio and have a day out on us.
Although we don\'t pay a fee for the use of the car, we will pay costs. The
owner will of course get a copy of the magazine and their car will be
photographed across five pages of it. But the biggest draw is that a
photoshoot costs over £400, and the car\'s owner will get a copy of all the
pictures taken, on a CD-ROM. As the photographer uses a medium format
digital camera, everything will be available for the owner to do with what
they like (although they won\'t own the copyright of course).

Naturally, nobody except the car\'s owner will be driving the car, and the
only pictures taken are in the studio - there\'s no photography of the car
being driven on the road.

After that, the rest is quite easy. The other thing I need help with is
putting together some text that is comprehensive and accurate. I can usually
get started but need some guidance on quite a few areas such as the best
specialists, books and websites. Parts prices and availability is also
another area that\'s in there.

If you think you can help me, could you please let me have a contact number
so that I can ring you. Alternatively, my home number is 01905 775 539.

Regards,

Richard Dredge

I would recommend anyone with a car suitable for this that it is an interesting day out to have your car photographed.

Sean - if the journo wants some standard Gen 1 Mk3 pictures then I think the ones from my Classic Cars shoot at Beaulieu will be in the National Motor Museum Photo archive.  Only problem is that mine is a late car and not an early car.  Mine was photographed in Feb 2005 and I am sure Tom Wood down there has the details.  Not sure who owns the pics seeing as the other mag paid for the shoot however!

Only just got broadband connected having moved house. Contacted Richard volunteering my 1st Gen but unfortunately he had already sorted a car. :Typing

At least I can look forward to the guide - I subscribe to Practical Classics and can honestly say it\'s one of the better mags about. They seem to be able to get enthusiastic about any older car, and quite a few not-so-old ones as well!
