The SVA, government scam to make money or a worthwhile test. I recently SVA\'d my first vehicle, not an rx7 i am afraid, although i do drive one. I can understand the usefullness of a safety check on imported vehicles, but, my failure sheet consisted of, fog light being 8mm to low, mph sticker on speedo not readable at night, and aftermarket stereo not being flush with the dash, it realistically sticks out about 5mm max. I mean in all honesty, there are certain issues with an import i can see need addressing, safety obviously, my point though is this, mph sticker being visable at night, its hardly likely that i would suddenly forget i was doing mph rather than kph, fog light at 8mm is hardly criminal and as for the stereo, it was suggested the reason for this was because of the radius of the edges, but they are by no means sharp. However, i did meet a guy from Re Worx down there and had a good chat, so if you read this it was nice to say hello with a fellow enthusiast.

Are all imports subjected to this test?

Who is responsable for booking them in and is it a legal requirement before driving an import on the road?

Only if the vehicle is 10 yrs old or newer, after 10yrs just requires an mot and then registration fees. Sva is booked in with your local sva office but you need to contact VOSA, a department of the DVLA.

As Brian says welcome to the wonderful world of SVA.

Perhaps we should compile a top ten or possibly more of these major failing items and send them back to the ministry.  Here are a couple more to add to the list:

1) The word \'PAJERO\' on the rear step of said vehicle not being radiused to 1mm.

2) Wind deflectors again not radiused to 1mm.


And they wonder why we get a little bit annoyed sometimes.

Those two even make mine seem inconsiquential(if thats how you spell it). Maybe a top ten list would be a laugh. cant see the ministry laughing though, greedy ba~*&rds.
