Hi Guys

Just wondering after flooding my car the other day and finally getting it started today i realised that i should probably give it a bit of a service new plugs, oil, filters that sorta thing.  So i was just wondering how much engine oil your supposed to put in to this oil drinking machine. Its a 3rd Gen 1993 Rx7 Type R if this makes any difference.

I was going to use a 10/40w oil which im sure is ok but any better sugestions are welcome.

Thanks a lot Guys

Between 4 and 5 Litres :)

5 ltrs will do a change unless you are doing a total drain which takes approx 7 ltrs.

Thanks Guys

How do you mean a total drain

when you remove the sump plug and drain oil, approx 2 ltrs stays in the oil coolers and pipe work.

So basically if you\'re just draining the sump and changing the oil filter you\'ll only need a 5 litre bottle. After filling back up again though run the engine for a few minutes round the block and check your level in case you need to top up.

Yes mate...............

I\'m going to sound silly here (no change there then!) but is there a way a home diy\'er can do the 7 liter job so you can have a lovely golden oil - or is there very little point in doing this?

Not without some agro, you would have to disconnect the pipes and coolers to let drain.
Wont help to much but in a couple of months we may have a machine that flushes your old oil out and replaces it with new, will be a total flush. May even have a machine soon that cleans the oil at service intervals and is reused, because Royal Purple is so good it can be cleaned and reused, and has been in industrial oil for a while. Which will bring Royal Purple prices down as you will only through away less often, making it more economical then mineral.

Thanks Gary, just the job - 5 liters for me then! :D

I\'ve changed my oil what seems like a million times, it always takes exactly 4 litres though.

Ive seen FD\'s vary from 4ltr and a bit to almost 5ltr
And of coarse a 5ltr will give you just a tad for topping up.

Depends on the position of your oil cooler relevant to your sump\\motor,if it is higher than the oil sump it  will auto discharge from the cooler to the sump and hence you will need the full amount to replenish.....and if it is lower you will have to flush the cooler.

5 liters, and you don\'t use it all.?Filter should be changed too.
Remember though that your engine should use oil too between changes,so you need the same oil to top it up with.
Allways check your oil level regularly as it is not only vital for lubrication, but also cools the rotors, which account for about one third of the engines cooling capability, and if the oil is low then you have less cooling availabilty.
