Hi,

I need to get some sort of roof rack that will fit an FC, I don\'t need it to be fancy, and its just a 1 use thing for a bonnet.

Any ideas on the cheapest solution?

Too expensive as i am travelling down from Manchester to London.

Need something inexpensive that fixes to the car.

I had thought about that, but ideally I want to bring both bonnets back up north :P

Ditching the std bonnet is a last resort atm.

Fit new bonnet.

Now get an old blanket or 2 or 3, and put on roof, now put old bonnet on roof. Open the windows, but leave doors closed, and now tie on the bonnet, through the open windows, and drive SLOWLY!

Dukes of hazzard style entry and exit then LoL

You\'ll need a pilots licence for that though!
Hey good you got the car back, hope all goes well.
seems to be in very good shape still from the pics.
look forward to seeing you and car out and about this year?

Hi Paul, definately!  Will try to get to a few events this year once I have sorted the respray, etc.

My new recaro seats just arrived today, ill take some photographs - hope they fit to the rails, there a flat bottom, 6 bolt pattern so fit most cars...

pity you need to keep both - i would have swapped bonnet - cut the other one in half and thrown it in the boot !

will the bonnet not fit in the boot with the seats down at an angle ??

Im not sure, ideally that would be best to just shove it in the car - but i doubt it fits?

I don\'t need to keep them both, its just quite useful to have a spare T2 bonnet - so worse case I can get rid of it somewhere.

If it could fit in the back of the car that might be ideal - the back of the rex i mean.

Anyone fancy gauging it up?

Years ago I remember trying to get hold of FC roof rack for windsurfing and it wasn\'t easy. I think Thule (or Paddy Hopkirk?) did one but you needed to buy an extension on the foot mountings because the FC roof is too short! In the end it became quite expensive (something like £80).

Cabs however are a different story - apparently in the US an optional extra when you bought one was a boot mounted luggage rack. I guess the same sort as you sometimes see on an MGF or MX5. Not much use for carrying a bonnet though. Have never seen on myself on a cab. Anyone else?

Loxam

Anyone had a go at guestimating if it would fit in the boot (even if it sticks out with some rope jobby)

Martiny

I am willing to bet that if you put it at an angle, it will fit, though the hatch would need to roped somehow as it probably wont close.

I have a rack for the FD, it would probably fit your car, but I am reluctant to lend it out, though, it cost me a LOT more than £80 !

I think thats the most cost efficient way, roping the hatch.  Thanks for the help guys - now to find some good quality rope!

Hope the plod don\'t catch me on the way home :P
