Got in my car tonight after work and started it. It sounded a bit funny almost as if something hadn\'t quite started properly.

Drove about 100 yards and the water temp shot up and the warning buzzer went off, so I pulled over and opened the bonnet. Couldn\'t see any leaks and checked the reserve tank for coolant, which seemd okay.

I legged it back to my car parking space to see if my car had decided to dump any coolant, which it hadn\'t

So I went back to my car and started it to see if the water temp would go up again. This time when Is started it, it sounded like it normally does and I drove slowly home, off boost and the temp gauge stayed where it normally does.

I\'ve just had an Aluminum AST fitted and the guy who did it put the high pressure cap on the radiator filler and the old radiator cap on the AST, which I was a bit unsure about, however that was over a week ago and I\'ve had no problems before now

What\'s going on?!

Personaly I\'d put the caps in the correct position and take it from there!!!! How long was the engine running for befor the gauge told you it was over heating????
over heating after 100 yards???? I\'d say you had a short on the gauge somwhere!!

I started it, let it idle for a couple of minutes to warm up a bit and then started to drive it. Literally 100 yards and the buzzer went off!

I wasn\'t really looking at the gauge because I\'ve had not problems with it before now.
