My boot has been leaking water for some time & at first i thought water may have been getting in through either the spoiler holes or the rear wiper. But i\'m now convinced that it\'s the seal that goes around the rear window as it seems to have come away at the bottom of the screen where the plastic meets! Has anyone else ever had this problem? Can anyone tell me if the rear windscreen glass needs to be completely replaced or whether i can just get it removed & replace the plastic (black) seal that seems to go round the edge? HELP

I\'m not sure it the glass on the FD is glued on to the frame but I wouldnt of thought you\'d have to change the glass, just maybe the rubber that surrounds it has got loose. Take the car to your local auto glass specialist and get them to have a look. :)

Taking the car to Autoglass on Friday afternoon, they will look at it & decide whether to fix the seal or replace it. They will also check for leaks. I\'ll let you know what i find out dwarfslapper !

I\'d be suprised if the Bonded rear screen is leaking? Unless its been replaced Badly.

Have you checked if the Rear wiper rubber is tight?

TBH there is not alot that can leak on the Gate its self, sounds daft but we\'ve recently had a Customer that had a water leak and it puzzled us for ages until it was pointed out the Rear Sreen washer did\'nt work ither, turned out the Pipe had fallen off?? Its always simple stuff.

I did a temp fix on mine and it seems to have worked so far.  Mine used to let water in which pooled behind the plastic under the wiper and drenched the storage bins.

It was the seal at the bottom of the screen so I did my best fix and it seems ok - still its one of those things that\'s on the growing list to get fixed properly    :Giggle

Mine still isn\'t fixed (autoglass etc. = Useless), Car is going into body shop on Monday & while they are taking out some dents & respraying they are also going to put some silicone sealant round all the holes (spolier & windscreen arm etc.) on the inside of the tail gate.

I also have this problem.  It wasn\'t too bad before but I\'ve just had the car in for some work and had a respray and now water is pouring into the boot, I guess the rear seal hasn\'t been put back correctly...also have a small leak coming from the top right side of the windscreen but that\'s another story.  The water in the rear seems to collect at the bottom and when the boot is opened it pours out onto the parcel shelf and also the storage bins.  It has to be the seal on mine as I don\'t have a rear wiper.

If you need to get replacement seals I\'ve seen new items on Rotary Art, don\'t knao how hard/easy these are to fit however, anybody done it before?  The service manuals show the process which doesn\'t look too bad but was wondering what it\'s like in reality.

Please dont seal inside, fix the leak from the outside. If you bodge silicon around areas on the outside and inside you will create a bucket that will rust 10 times quicker, if water gets in through top, and you have sealed it in side, where is it going to go? It\'ll just slop around rusting from the inside out.

I would personaly have the screen removed and refitted, it will cost about £40 but it will be spot on.

Yeah, have decided that it\'s better to get it done properly now.  Just have to work out who to use.

Did you put the rubber seal in yourself?  Was the leak you had similar to the others in this thread?  Just trying to work out if it\'s worth the cash to get a new one.

The rear window on these cars are completely bonded in and the rubbers are for purely decorative purposes only.

When I had mine done years ago the glass mans book said use Ford Sierra trims in place of standard ones, and thats what the man did and I had no complaints.

As previously said, check the drains and even remove the main interior side trims and trace the pipes to check they are connected if need be.

Hope this helps
All the best Clive
