my car would idle fine, id rev the engine and itd come back down and go stupid close to stalling!

I thought id fixed thiz yesterday as i found my vacuum hose to the boost gauge had split, so i swapped it for a ncie piece of blue silicone. started her yesterdya nd she was ace, reved til the cows came home (including the one under my bonnet from my air pump) and she stayed at around 800

I start her today (not driving as just got leg out of cast and also have no MOT - waiting for a door handle to arrive)
and shes idling like sh*t, and when revved the problems back, revved and then actually stalls now unless i give it some revs..... :reallymad

i even sawpped back tot eh OE airbox and filter to see if this was the problem (cured the mooing) but still stalls when revved. i cant find any other air leaks, but then i aint properly checked around the IC yet.

Wierd...... I\'ve got the same things as you going on (prime Jap Beef) and the low idle, probably about 500rpm (In 1st at junctions), but if I nock it out of 1st it comes back up to 850 ish???? I know my clutch needs changing, but it only happens now and again...... most of the time there is no problem??!!!!!

Sorry if ive misread this but from what youve said it sounds like youre not actually driving it anywhere just revving on the spot and shutting off. Id say youre just fouling the plugs up? Or at least that\'d be the easiest to prove. That\'s not in response to Jono as that sounds different (if it\'s fully warmed up).

it sounds like the tps. I told you about this on another thread a few days ago. I even posted a link direct to the thread. Get over to the usa forum and it tells you in detail how to adjust it. All you need is a digital electronic multimeter.

ashc

mine did this, only when the aircon was on. then it stopped doing it after a service at reworx when they replaced all the plugs (which were fouled). Had the tps checked, that was fine.

yeh, sorry robbie, i do rememeber now. mind like a fish.  :2Confused

plugs were changed recently. i leave the engine to warm up for around 10 mins then revved slightly and it plays silly buggers.

i\'ll check the tps but why would it do it one day and not the next?

off to find that thread with the link you said about.

cheers

From past experience on Probes they do wear so it could just be a bit worn possibly? They\'re easy to adjust though :)

well i took mine for a blat today, still a bit iffy when revved, but not near stalling. the idle still isnt right either.

and from wot i read from the us site, it doesnt seem THAT easy to sort the TPS..... i think i\'ll call out the mobile mechanic bloke (not that he\'ll have a clue about a rotary i expect) cuz i aint too happy about fiddling with something i dont know about if im not 100% sure how to do it.

i\'l have another read and see if it makes more sense on how to do it, but i dont even know where the TPS is  :2Confused  guessing that its by the throttle body.

Should be opposit the throttle linkage on the throttle body I\'d of thought!!! wouldn\'t be very big at all, small black box about 1.5" square, and 0.5" thick normaly!!

So your gonna pay a mobile mechanic who knows nothing about rotarys, even though you have done more work on one! You know more info on how to do it on this car than he does!! I gotta say that sounds like a dumb ass thing to do. If you really dont want to mess yourself, then AT LEAST get a reputable garage who works on rotarys to do the work. If you intend on keeping the car for a long time, then i think its worth having a mess yourself.

GerbilStuntFarm

Efini82, try this thread and see if it helps but if you start the car then do make sure you drive it :)

i only said that about the mobile mechanic - keep ur hair on chap!

i think i can live with it for the mean time and see if it clears up with driving it a bit more as it seemed fine when driving, just idle.

give me a spanner and socket and i\'l try and fix something, but i dont like electrical stuff. i can fit a full stereo system for ur car and install tvs/dvd etc, but generally i dont like electrics.

Although, saying that i did fit an aftermarket fuel managment system (to do away with the afm and use bigger injectors for the big turbo and external wastegate i fitted) to my other car and she still runs sweet as a nut so i guess i could try to play with some voltages. just scares me that an engine rebuild is stupid money and i dont want to give it any more chances to blow up    :p

you may as well have a go at doing it then being as you have done serious work on other cars. ;) The car will still idle and drive without the tps unit plugged in! i know this because after doing the rats nest on mine 16 months ago, i took it for a drive and noticed it was idling at 1500rpm..plugged it in and it idled fine. Since then something has developed a fault and my idle hunts a bit but drives fine. :3Confused   On the usa forum by the sound of it, all you need to do is adjust a couple of screws, plug the tester into the wires then turn the tps unit untill it reads a certain value on the test meter.I got idling issues myself and i have got to do all this. Your fault sounds exactly the same as mine. Im gonna have a go in the next couple of weeks and il let you know if it sorts it. Lets face it..the car can`t get much worse with the idling issue than it is now, so i have nothing to loose :Thumbsup!

Efini82

well i didnt have a go on the tps today, but i did wash her!!!   :chat

i\'l have a go after i sort my mot - hopefully wednesday     :2Rolleyes
