Matt

I currently have  a Greddy profec b boost controller with a hks fcon5. Is It worth getting an Apexi ecu with controller.

Or what would be a good power upgrade?

Many thanks

It would be a shame to replace one ecu with another as to convert would not be cheap.

I do not fully understand the Fcon piggyback ecu\'s, but assuming you can get someone to tune it for you, I would be tempted to stick with it if funds are tight.

The Greddy boost controller should work ok with the Apexi, so if you went this route you could keep it.

What are you planning to do with the car? Keep it as is, or tune the hell out of it?

i would like to tune it, it still has a standard ecu. money is quite tight but the boost controller does make a difference when turned on and ive only turned it up half way so far.

does the boost controller actually increase power or does it just increase the boost?

cheers

Boost controller will not increase power - it does as it says on the tin!

It will control boost via wastegate duty cycle to whatever limits you set up the unit to deliver, up to a point anyway.

This overides the stock boost control system on the car.

More boost means more fuel though, that is why you need to check you are not going to pop it by running lean.

so how will i know if im running it lean. Im not sure how much to turn it up by when i turn it on. It also has hi boost, low boost and balance and i dont really know what they do.

max correct me if im wrong but he can turn it upto what ever he wants coz the boost will be dictated by the waste gate. so if he sets its to 2 bar it will only deliver stock boost.

Yes, boost is dictated by the wastegate - BUT it depends whats controlling the wastegate as to what pressure of boost it dicates!

Not sure gary, remember it is not a stock ecu as such (piggyback). Could be that the ecu will deterime the upper boost limit, but set the upper limit on the ECU to 1.2 bar (does the Fcon allow this??) and wind the boost controller up to max and you will get 1.2 bar boost (if the turbo\'s can manage it).

Like I say, I know absolute diddly squat about the Fcon unit.

Matt, the only way to check your air/fuels ratio\'s is to either get a wideband O2 sensor or take it to a rolling road.

In the meantime, I would be conservative with boost until you are sure that it is safe to raise it.

Someone here must have the Fcon Ecu surely!

Matt

thanks for the advice, i think it may be wise to get it on a rolling road somewhere

I have been told that Abbey Motorsport are really good at tuning the HFS F-Con. It may be worth giving them a quick bell. You can contact them on 01883 732331.

Matt

Cheers, do you know where they are based

Fish

Abbey Motorsport are based in Oxted on the A25. Take the A22 exit from the M25, head for Haywards Heath, at the first roundabout turn left. Couple of miles along that road you come to a set of traffice lights with a bridge high above.

Turn right there, go down about 1 mile, get tight in places, and its on the right. Silly little sign on a fence post.

do you know any around the berkshire area?

also how much is it roughly to get a car on the rolling road and tuned
