Just been told there is a backlog of up to 3 weeks to book my rx into an SVA centre then a further 10days if everything goes ok.  Thing is, I reckon a local testing centre up north does not have a backlog and upon delivery I could book it in.  Question is what exactly will i need to do, so far I have thought of;

KMH to MPH
Fog light (MR2 light?)
Radio Frequency\'s

Will I need a BITMA cert to verify mileage on conversion?

What is the expected cost of a local garage and me doing the conversion?

I am expecting to be banned for a short period soon and would like to drive the car before the ban as opposed to waiting 6 months or so.

Please help guys!

PS, Brian, I remember your advice on getting the import guys to do this for me but now I think circumstances have changed:(

It\'s 18 months since I SVA\'d a car and it wasn\'t an RX-7, but this may help

You don\'t need to fit a radio expander for the SVA (unless you want sounds on the drive up there)

Your speedo needs to read MPH, but I don\'t think there are any rules about converting your odometer, unless things have changed recently.  You can get a cheap replacement face for the speedo, or you can do it electronically.  Import solutions do a combined converter / de-limiter for £50, but I\'ve not tried it.

They also do a nice slim-line foglamp.  Not sure what you mean by an MR2 light, but it must be a proper e-marked fog lens on the lamp, and make sure it\'s mounted correctly.  You\'ll need an iluminated switch for it.  Re-wiring a brake light will not pass the SVA.

If you have a large tailpipe without a rolled edge, you may need to fit an exhaust trim.

HTH.  Feel free to ask more...

Someone else sells a combined delimiter / mph converter that is adjustable in 1 % increments.  I\'ll try to look them up.  I should think the SVA engineer will let you adjust it during the test.  if not you could use GPS or motorway marker posts on the way to the SVA to fine tune the speedo.

Also just remembered, I think you\'ll need a fuel filler neck restrictor.  Make sure your filler cap still seals after fitting it.  Again, import solutions can help, but there are cheaper / better solutions out there.

Thanks for the info and the link Jimbo.

I remeber reading shomewhere that an MR2 fog lamp fits well on an rx7.

This is the adjustable speedo converter.  I haven\'t used one, so I can\'t comment on its effectiveness.

I think you also need a fuel nozzle reducer.
Best people to ask are, evil rotor (Ross) or Brian Ellis.

This company can supply most things you need to prepare you car for an sva, speedo converters ,as used by Suburu (UK), Mazda (UK) and Mitsubishi (UK) for their own grey imports ( so their website says), fuel filler neck adaptors etc.

I\'ve bought about 5 speedo chips from them over the years, all work fine.
