Steve Burnett

This is only the second time its ever flooded. The car has been faultless at starting other than that.

grinder

ahhh right - mine EGI used to do it all the time

i found a real simple solution to that though

1 - clamp fuel line with locking pliers
2 - crank her till she started
3 - get out quick and remove pliers before she stalled :)

grinder, thats an excellent idea - i never thought about doing that! Saves alot of time and effort.

And if you dont want your car to flood, wait till she warms up before you shut her off for more than a few minutes (stopping for petrol when cold etc is no problem, but dont park it for more than 5 mins when its cold)

oh, and DONT step on the gas at all when you try and start the car.

Martiny

Bobfish I think you need to qualify that a bit better. This might apply to the EGI, but in a gen 3 and RX-8 , flooring it stops the injectors pumping fuel.

Bobfish

Martiny - i didn\'t know that! thanks for the tip....

not sure about the Gen3\'s, but the RX-8 doesnt really flood does it?

Martiny

Bobfish, yes , sometimes they do unfortunately :-(

Re RX8 - yes, lots before a flash / PCM / ECU revision last March which changed shutdown and startup fuelling to allieviate the situation.

Whenever mine has stood for more than a week I always crank it for 10 seconds with accelerator on the floor, just in case. Just as well last time, because there was oodles of stale fuel burning off for the first few miles of driving
