Hello my new found friends.  First off, thanks for the useful buyer\'s guides which I found here.

I have just bought my first RX7, 93 FD3S, 3rd Gen series 6.  I got it for well below normal price, basically because a couple of things will need doing.  I am prepared for a rebuild if need be.  Here are some things I noticed whilst driving home yesterday.

Car idles quite low, never stalls or even threatens to, but sometimes coughs a little at idel, as if it wants to die.
A noise almost sounds like bearings in the turbo, or ticking noise (detonation) whenever at WOT.  This seems to come from the passenger footwell, sounds like an air leak whilst driving, then when you give big throttle and boost becomes positive, it sounds like bearings or loose metallic sound?)  Hence I am driving without using boost currently until I have had the car looked over by a specialist, thinking about Jimmy\'s in Norwich.  I live in Croydon Surrey, but Jimmy\'s looks cheapest if I do need a rebuild.  (I do not have the 3000 rpm hesitation)
Central locking not working.
Driver\'s side interior light switch not working, (light only comes on when you open the passenger door).

Now, I understand that these cars can run lean, it has a boost controller fitted, with big exhaust and apexi guage.  It is currently set to 0.6 Bar.  I am not using this power though yet.

I would like to find a cheap way (ROM Chip ?) of getting a better fuel mixture to see if this help solve any of my engine problems, before I go all the way to Norwich to get checked out.  Can anyone please give me advice in this area, and indeed help with any other problems that I am experiencing.  Any thoughts on this ?

Thanks all for any help.

Hi Simon,

The central locking is probably the actuator gun or cable not working, cable snapping is relatively common. Take the door card out and have a look, you\'ll spot it straight away.

The most common option for a new ecu is an Apexi (they have a webpage you can look up), it\'s over 500quid, not heard of this farina thing and nor has rx7club.

As for your other problems I\'d save your money for the moment and get it to a specialist as soon as you can.

Thanks Wedgie, or should I say Jonathon Woss.

I have been speaking with Brian from Rotary Imports in Lingfield quite near me, he has said he will happily check over the car for me.

I will get the door card out thanks for that info.

I have just ordered a Apexi Power FC with Commander from ebay Japanes seller, £465 delivered.  How good is the base map does anyone know ?  Is it ok just to remove my old ecu and put this one in ?  Surely it can\'t be any worse than the old thing in there !  I have cat back exhaust, GReddy elec boost controller and Apexi boost guage, thats it.

Regards to all...

Pictures coming soon, pretty in silver I have to say.

Hi Simon,

That was quick, while you\'re in a shopping mood could you buy me some new wheels please :)

The Apexi will swap straight in and the base map will be okay since you haven\'t many mods. It\'ll need to be set up as per the instruction manual, http://www.apexi-usa.com/pdfInstallation/13.pdf   but it\'s a 5 minute job. Wisest purchase you\'ll ever make, everything else will be just for fun :)
