I know this is a daft question becouse its hard to diagnose without seeing it but.

I have picked up a problem with my FD, the exhaust has started blowing from the back of the Turbo\'s down by the Bulkhead. I have had a good look and for the life of me can\'t see where its coming from. i\'m guessing its the Down pipe Gasket but i\'m realy struggling to feel a leak.

Is there a gasket that tends to fail alot on the turbo\'s? i don\'t fancy taking them off, looks a nasty job.

I just thought i\'d ask before i plan my next step.

Hi Chris,

It is a bugger of a job - could be a cracked manifold also :(  (I have seen a few of these with FD\'s, even some images out there on the net).

Have you done the rubber hose trick, one end in your ear and the other to listen/find the exact location of the leak?  It will help you find the leak, but won\'t help you fix it I think.
Thanks,

nikp

I have a similar issue with mine. I aint touching it for the moment, due to the fact the turbo\'s are such an arse to get off! :o

Grizzly

Sounds a good Sugestion, I\'ll have a go at least i\'ll know where its coming from. Cheers.

Doing mine at the moment all the turbos of and got a new manifold from reworx last night.   All the bolts and studs start to come undone over time.   This is the second time i have had to do this as the first time  all the bolts and studs sheared off.   If you are going to do it ring up reworx get all new studs, nuts and bolts before you even start.

It is possible to do the job at home but expect lots of blood and swearing.  I can now get the turbo out and on the floor in about 1 1/2 hours.  So it aint that bad the second time.

Should be finished by tonight will let you know how it went.

Chris,
they are few option:

1) cracked manifold (seen just few FD\'s with that)
2) blown exhaust manifold gasket (seen just few cars with it)
3) blown gasket on the intake mani where the exhaust gases are provided to emission system.  (seen that very often)

I would say, this is the 3-rd option. Have done more than few cars with that problem. Mazda has changed the gasket design from paper stuff to metal gasket for this one.

If you need advice ore anything else, drop me a line.

?? Upper inlet ??? I did not know there was a recycle on the Inlet, but i do know. Cheers.

Does that enter the Inlet towards the back/Bulkhead?

I\'m going to have to have a real good look at this. I\'m 90% sure its not the Down pipe now and i\'ve felt for blows as best i can around the manifold but with the complete lack of space its hard going.

I will check out this return pipe next, hopefully it will be leaking but failing that i may take this opportunity to get my Turbos overhauled and kill two birds so to speak.

Silly??? Are you one of these people with Designer overall\'s..... :chat

Hello mate have fixed mine it was the turbo to manifold gasket but i chucked a new exhust manifold in as well.   I wasn\'t damaged just that the bolts holding it where doing nothing.   So all new studs, nuts and bolts and finaly sorted it.
I started the car ,let it warm up and went for a drive.  I gave it a bit in first and just spun up on the first turbo changed to second and the same thing.  It comes on boost so quick now but it was over boosting turned the boost down and all sorted.

Good luck with yours

nikp

that spurs me on to have a go at mine....after christmas!

Do it now makes a massive differance.  Not to bad to do either if you know how to do it.  Its just that some of the turbo nuts are hidden away. I say its the second time i have done it.  So do it properly the first time use all new bolts nuts and studs all the way through and should be fine.  If your manifold is dodge reworx sold me mine for £50 .  I reused all the meatal gaskets due to them being about £50 each x 4.  If there not cracked then you will be fine

andyrose

i had this prob, took tubs off twice to no avail and when the car fell on me i decided enough was enough, gary gooding sorted it out for me (although it took him two attempts to find the prob).
Always try and use decent second hand gaskets, use new ones and you\'ll be tightening them up again after 500 miles!

y are gaskets so dear for a rex cost me 300 pound from mazda for 15 gaskets can get same for a nother car for 100
