i was thinking arc or mig i\'ve done a bit of welding, i\'m a semi skilled engineer so i got to know some lil tricks. arc welders seem to go cheaper then mig so i was going arc there a lil easyer to feed the weld in.

Yeah i reccomend a MIG for first time too. just get a decent mask they make all the difference! Ill find a few good sites out for you to read up on technique! Me and a friend built my exhaust after only a week of practice :D and i have to say its damn sweet! me next proxect is my manifold  :wiggle

As we\'re on the subject of welders- what should I look for?? Where can i find out how to use one correctly?? etc, etc.

Never done any before, but keen to learn and seems essential in FC ownership

Thanks for any help

Cool, you will have to make more than one up!!   :spank

bet thing to look at is the welders bible but thats fairly indepth i think haynes do a welders guide for car things? theres always google, the higher ther amps ect the better but if its just for cars a small std item is ok other wise you can just blow streaght through.

so as normal i am odd, i always found arc easyer than mig, tho i think when i used the mig it was set up to do silly large welds ( something like 8mm, silly MOD job) so box section got wiped out.

HOW MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the only thing i can comment on here is

1 - MIG - Look for what amps it does - the better the range the better for you ( i can weld thin to thick on mine )
2 - ARC - you get nice welds with ARC i have to admit that - but usually only for doing 2mm+ work
3 - MIG - For beginner its great - stick in right place - pull trigger .. JOY ! :D
4 - Lots of scrap metal and practice on it - buy the wire from ebay - nice and cheap
5 - MIG - if working outside - use gasless wire
6 - MIG - if welding inside - use gas
7 - MIG - Get one that does both :)

mine was £66 from ebay ( collected ) and its got 3 settings ( low, med, high ) and then another switch which does low , high

so its got 6 settings - low-low to high-high

i borrowed one to weld my car up - had that for 12 months - offered the guy £100 for it and he wouldnt sell - glad he didnt as my ebay one was cheaper :)

i got quoted over £300 for welding mine ( and that was before i knocked seven shade of sht out of it with the hammer ) - in the end it worked out at

1 - welder - borrowed - free
2 - steel - £3 for a 1mm sheet of 6ft * 18 inchs
3 - 2 rolls of wire @ 9.00 each of ebay - i seem to waste more that i use - but i dont care
4 - 1*4.5kg reel for £35 but never used it - still in box

so worse case it cost me ( 35+18+3 ) is £56 - now thats a grinder friendly price :D :D

Enough wittering from me i think .. im just happy as i won the cab cover on ebay for £5.50 and my oil temp/pressure gauges arrived today

oh yes - one happy bunny at the mo :D

I got my oil temp gauge thru the other day too Stu, just trying to think how best to plumb it in... whats your angle of attack?  :)

grinder

ah well :D :D .............

im very sneaky - i bought mine from DanDan  , and it came with

1 - oil temp gauge
2 - oil pressure gauge
3 - sandwich plate for under the oil filter

there is a discount code for the sandwich plate in the members bit

ALTHOUGH i have seen it taped into the banjo bolts on the oil cooler ??

grinder
