Took the car out again yesterday and despite the water pump leakin again went 10 secs faster that last year at the same venue.
Beaten again by a Mk2 escaort but he wasnt registered for points so I bagged 10 and moved into a strong 2nd in the championship.
Next outing is at Abingdon on 10th June
Cheers
Brian
PS also got a 13b lump off a guy cheap.
Going to have a go at building a one event wonder :eek  to beat an escort.
Must not be turbo or injected or PP.

Well done Brian. Need to come and watch you sometime soon, sounds like fun.
What\'s the issue with the water pump then?
How\'s your dad getting on duplicating the parts?

kiwimazda

Got a new water pump on the way, should be with me by Tuesday all going well. £37 plus vat

As of 10.30 last night the car lives.
An interesting devolopment in the Mazda vs Escort has also arisen.
It seems that my main competitor in his Escort has been a naughty boy  :spank
He will be given the choice this morning to come clean about his engine size or he will get it tested.
We got a tip off that he was running a 2.2 engine and his mate was 2.4  :Nono!
As it is the up to 2ltr class I dont quite see where they fit in.
I wouldn\'t normally worry but for the fact they have blabbed to the wrong person and started showing off about it and if some new person was in our class and trying hard to get somewhere then found that they were up against a couple of cheaters I dont think they would want to come back or would just start cheating. Its not good for the sport
I will keep you all posted about todays results
Cheers
Brian

Cheaters always get found out... :spank  :spank

MikeLMR

it\'s always fun when you beat them without cheating though ;)

I would have thought they would get checked anyway if they are always winning, might be an idea to let them have enough rope to hang themselves so to speak ?

Only if there is an official protest...if its a MSA approved race series then the protest fees are £2500.00 !!!!!!!!!!!,thats why nobody will protest. :Typing Ive had to endure that kind of behaviour when I raced, but it just ups your game and makes you read the technical handbook more closely... :cool

The results from yesterday are 2nd in class and no damage. Still a bit worried about the cooling on the engine but it was hot yesterday.
1st in class was, you guessed it a Mk2 Escort with a 2.2 engine.
He was challenged over his engine size and he said it was 2.0, so the officials said Ok mate we will leave you in that class. Can I smell sh1t or what.
So I am now going to get some slicks, take more weight out of the car and loose 15kg myself and  :spank his arse.
The next event is at Longcross on 15 July and then another at Debden on 16 July.
Definatly changing Flywheel and clutch before then as well.
Now Im really mad.
The next escort gets this!!!  :flamed

It lives!!!!
The last 2 weeks have been a nightmare.
We decided to get rid of all of Mazdas finest unused wiring.
When placed in a bag and weighed it was 10kg, then add to that the metal frame work from the dash and things that aren\'t needed like horns and brackets etc the loss was around 25kg.
The problem being that we snipped one wire to many and lost all power to the dash. After much head scratching the problem was solved an assembly continued. Once all together It fired first push of the starter button.
New top mounts have also been fitted to enable adjustment of caster and camber.
All going well I will have time to totally strip the front bumper and I found some underseal that needs scraping off.
One last thing to fit is the anti ford escort guns. I am not sure how to fit them under the front wings

MikeLMR

excellent :) it\'s a sense of achievement when it all works as planned isn\'t it :D

What a weekend.
My head wasnt screwed on right on saturday. I lost the plot and we couldnt work out why I wasnt happy with the car.
It turned in like it should, stopped and accelerated and belched flame like it should, but I was still not happy.
After a stern bollocking from my chief spanner we realised that it was because we were going to another event on Sunday and I was just being a nob.
SO the first timed run went well and I was in 3rd place and in with a real chance of beating that pesky escort.
On the 2nd run the times came down a bit more.
On the 3rd and final run I was absolutly flying

until I over did it under brakes at about 100mph and performed a lovely 360 into more cones than an ice cream soft serve.
After the panel beating was done It was then noticed that I had managed to totally ruin 4 race tyres. The day worked out at £115 per mile.
Sunday saw us in Debden for their sprint.
This is a fantastic venue and I came away with max championship points, now leading the championship and kept the crowds on their feet with massive sidways action on four stufffed tyres and a good 360 burnout and scattering of cones for good measure.
However we now need to get four more rubbers as these are totaled.
A debrief with mr spanner and mr Fosters tonight will see a massive working bee on the car.
Blow the championship, class wins now please

Hi Kiwi - Met you briefly down at Surrey Rolling Road on Saturday morning (mine\'s the blue FD).  Your car is totally awesome - made the 600bhp bling supras look a bit soft!

You should have seen the loose that I had. That was awesome:eek:
We now have slicks and some under body ducting to remove hot air and lower the air pressure from under the bonnet.
