Car tax! fine?

Friend of mine missed out on getting notification of car tax renewal as she changed address, when she realised she renewed tax from the following month, missing out one month, unfortunately the car was seen and recorded without a valid Tax Disk, Does anyone have any idea what the fine or punishment will be Please,

I forgot to pay on my other car last year, renewal letter got shoved under some other post and i just completly forgot about it! about a month after it was due got a letter stating i\'ve got a fine of £200, which is reduced to £80 if you get the tax within a certain time.

Was a while back so numbers maybe wrong, but should be roughly what she will get I reckon, might be worth checking out dvla site, might have some info there

Yep i had similar to settle, just take your v5 and go the post office and sort it out. I think my fine was £80 too.

mine wa 50 bucks but that was like 3 years ago lol.. was kinda pooping maself cus i thought id hav to go to court lol

I got a fine last week for having no tax since June on my Citroen diesel (was left at a friends house and kinda forgotten about).  I was fined £40 and had to pay £24 in unpaid tax.

Yeah, I did expect worse and was surprised when I phoned them and they told me that was all I owed.  I paid and said no more!!

A pal of mine had a nasty experiance a week or so ago.

He has a T2 thats mid restoration, he pushed it down his drive so the back two wheels where on the road and the Ft where on his drive whilst tidying up his garage (Becouse his drive isn\'t very long). Being Very Cold he shuts the garage door and after an hour or so he went for a Brew etc. when he came out he though screw this its too cold i\'ll put the car away only to find it wasn\'t there??

Anyway to cut a long story short the DVLA hire people to drive around the streets looking for un Taxed cars etc. They had oviously seen this car half on someones drive and half on the road and thought it had been Dumped? in a place where the Avarage house price is £400,000 and there isn\'t a car on his road worth less than 20k (Apart from his T2 of course). So He fears the worst and called the Police who do the usal stuff take details etc. later on that night he gets a call from The Police "Your car has been taken for having no tax and is in a DVLA holding facility" So he gets the Number and rings them and of course there is no one there (6PM) so he thinks leave it until he gets to work next day. Next morning comes round and he gives them a bell, they tell him he has to get there within 24 hours to pay the fine or they will add £80 a day until 14 days when they crush the car, So he asks How much do i owe you and how long have you had it? the reply was "We picked the car up 10.20 yesterday and the Fine is £120 with a £80 storage fee and a £100 release fee" £300 But if you get it taxed within 10 days you get £80 of it back (take in to acount this car has half the floor missing) Anyway its 9.00 am and the guys now in work and has to drive 50 miles each way to pay the fine becouse they don\'t do over the phone payments or he gets another £80 on top if hes 1 minute late.

So he went over there and payed the money and then had to pay them another £100 to get them to drop it back off at his house, can you guess where they left it? in exactly the same place they picked it up.

I can tell you he laffed so much as he handed over £480 becouse he was 20 minutes late becouse of traffic. Can you guess who drove him over as he rides a Push bike to work every day. That will be me.
