Hi guys, just taken the leap and purchased an imported RX7 from the land of the rising sun.

1992 with touring spec (leather etc etc) and mazdaspeed coilovers/strut brace all fitted when i purchased!! 58000kms, silver, totally standard throughout.

First question is regards the reg process.....new to this game. I have the jap tax book+english reg, reciept from the importer with vat numbers and customs codes etc. I believe my next step is to get the thing MOt\'d and insured....but how do I insure a car with no reg??? Gettin v reasonable quotes from elephant with regards to me being in N.Ireland and how do i tell a computer this info!!!

Second question is regarding mods i\'ve been advised to do, such as down pipe, alloy ast....are these really as critical as i\'ve been led to believe?? And if so any recommendations as to where to get em?

I also need a few other bits before i release her into the big bad world....front splitter has few scrapes and centre console arm rest/fag tray is missing, any ideas of good 2nd hand stuff and also slight leak around power steering pump return, hoping it was just a loose clip!!! Asides from that i\'m over the moon, very quick in comparison to my last "lardy" companion an ST205 Celica GT4.

Will get pics as soon as she\'s ready! IS there such a thing as a proper owners club, would love to join, fallen for the rotary charms already!!!

There are two places to hang out here and //www.fduk.org, I first insured my rx before using the vin number its in the engine bay and should start FD3s,

Alloy AST would be a good idea, downpipe prob not. Have a look at the vendors on the top of the page and they should be the first port of call for 2nd hand parts.

I\'ll try and answer a few questions:

An Aluminium AST is a very good idea. The stock plastic one has been know to split and loose all coolant, if this happens its not good! You can get them from Pip at //www.wgtautodevelopments.co.uk
As for other mods there are different views on this. A lot of people say that fitting an aftermarket back box and air filter is as much as you should do on the stock ecu, after that you should be fitting a programmable ECU. Apexi PFC is the most popular one but this requires someone who knows what they are doing to map it (might be a problem on NI).
The main thing you can do for the car is change oil & filter every 3k miles and generally look after it well. Use good fuel, shell optimax, bp ultima (or whatever its called).
There are a couple of places you could get the armrest from, look at the links at the top of the page. The vendors there can help, with the AST and front splitter also.

You can join this club, it gives some good benifits.

Definately change the oil often and treat it well, also be carefull now were getting to autmn a lot of people have been caught out with the rds getting a little more slippery.

Steve did you get that CD ok?

Steve Burnett

Yes, thanks very much.

Good on ya! Special work done by Pip at WGT Hes about the best in The UK and probably the EU. Not so cheap, but a master on the cars. Rule one, don\'t smash it up! they are crap in the WET! remember that one!  always keep good clean oil in the engine. If it goes POP, which it may do, sorry to say, it will cost around 4K + for a good rebuild. Fact, over 50% of used imports go POP wothin the forst 5 to 10K. Hope I am wrong with yours but expect it.  :wiggle
