Nice engine pics, are you doing this from memory or do you have the DVD? Nice to use  new shiney housings.  car will be like new when its done.  You just need to crack on and get this thing finished, cant believe you started this thread way back in 2005 !!!!  Now thats dedication for you.  I dont think I could ever take that long, mind you i do not have a garage to put the car in and therefore I just want to crack on and get it done.  I think I would do a lot more if I had the peace of mind of a nice warm and secure garage to do all the work and not worry about the weather all the time.  Work stopped play the other day because of the wind and rain.  Kepy myself busy though by mooding my rear lights to LED\'s.

Unfortunately the car is not in the garage! :(  It\'s sat outside on axle stands as high as they go (and some ;)) covered up to keep it out of the elements! The Westfield takes pride of place in the garage im afraid but is making for a rather expensive shelf :Giggle

As you say though, at least I can remove bits and spend time in the garage then pop them back on the car and keep it covered up!

Yeah 2005 - its mad :2eek  Time has ran away!

I have built myself a shot blasting cabinet which should help!  It\'s big enough for engine blocks and i\'d say you could blast 19" alloys in there too! :Giggle

I had the tyres off the rims the other day.  I was expecting the TII alloys to be fairly heavy but was really surprised, which is good! :)

Rear LED light\'s sound good though :cool

Brett

You\'re doing some good work there :)

Thanks mate :)

Im borrowing the welder again this week (fingers crossed)  Hopefully I will get the 2 sections underneath welded up and sealed :)  (which I must have said 100x before!)

Nice engine build going on - where did you get the seal kits ?

Thanks :)

I got the main bulk of the seals and gaskets from Japan via RHDrive.  Also at the time RHD where doing a full set of genuine OE Mazda 2mm apex seals for about £70  The rest of the items I got from my local Mazda garage :)

Coming along nicely. Don\'t forget to film it when you start it up!
Did you use a dvd or the FSM for the rebuild?
Also, did you find it hard to set the end float?

Ricco_04

Sorry didnt see your reply :o

Yeah got some DVD\'s.  Watched the 13b DIY and most usefull where the Mazdaworkshop manuals.  I also was given a copy of Bruce Turrentines rebuild DVD and I thought that was excellant for showing different techniques :yes

I have not done the end float yet, I need to beg for another dial guage (or dare say buy one :Giggle)  for now the engine is bagged up.  I will need to get some more gaskets for the upper, lower and exhaust manifolds and will shot blast the manifolds and front cover so next go at the motor should hopefully see it dressed ready to drop in (yeah whatever! :spank :Giggle)

just out of curiosity, how good were you with a spanner before you started this project?

Excellent write up, looking good, you can get decent dial gauges with magnetic stands fro around 15-20 quid flebay

I wasn\'t too bad to be honest - I started learning when I built a kit car which was in comparison so easy cause its just a large meccano set :Giggle

I brought this car so I could learn better how to do things, im still learning and have learnt so much so far.  The engine was really rewarding because there is so much information about meaning that there are not many surprises which gives you the confidence to carry on and enjoy it :)

Thank you :Thumbs-up

Yeah, I was looking at those, they all seem ok, I just worry how well they are calibrated as there is such a difference in price.  I dont know to be honest, they could be spot on for what I need :)

you\'ve done an awesome job so  i thought you may have a back ground in cars or do something work related!

i would one day like to rebuild an engine my self, though i can see it failing hard!!!

Ah never say never!  But mine is not running yet :Giggle

Unfortunately I work with carpets!  When I brought my westfield I just about understood what a brake disc and caliper was.  I unloaded the parts and remember looking at the prop wondering what the hell it was!! :rollin

Im of the opinion that you can do anything if you put the time and effort in :Thumbs-up  Probably a reason I have had the car nearly 3 years! :Hammer

Ricco_04

Wow, languishing down on the 7th page - knew I should have put some more time in! :Giggle

As the immediate plan is to get a rolling chassis back it was time to just attack the thing.  Out came all the fuel lines, brake pipes, rear suspension, fuel tank and everything else.  This left me free to remove ALL traces of rust (which was the biggest PITA ever)  Its been undersealed, primed and mostly painted underneath, just cause I wanted to!
