Hey, my Automatic in my 1990 JC Cosmo 20B has just pooped its self coming back from trip. Basically its got a grinding noise in box and can only just chug car along. It happened 15mins b4 i got home! (Yes i am unlucky) Firstly Overdive locked out after rather large chug and bang at 110kmh/ I then stopped and reverse just made horrible noise no motion. then got home and now the whole box is stuffed now. just spins and occasionally grabs for a minute.  I am after options on what to do with it. They are:

+Get it rebuilt = Lots of money but maybe get it done strong for later power upgrades on my 20B. :p

+Get another cosmo box imported 2nd hand and slap it in and hope it lasts longer  :(

+Do a manual conversion. Cost and ruin the luxury coupe image i want i think.

Any other options would be great if they were brought up. And the estimated cost of each installed. Thanks

Brett

I think you\'re first option may end up being the best, depending on whats actually given up in the box.

totally of the top of my head not knowing a great deal about g\'boxes for these, could you fit an fd auto box? might be easier to get hold of
ducks for flames....

fd autos are as rare as rocking horse, mazda stopped making them 2 years ago.

Hi Nashy and welcome to MRC,

It may not be as expensive as you think to rebuild your existing box as any good Autobox specialist will be able to sort your box as the parts are readily available, indeed some of the parts inside are easy to get Mitsubishi parts apparently !!.

Alternatively if you mail Kev Yorks on this site l am sure he will help you with info on fitting a manual FD box as he has done it already
All the best Clive

Hi Nashy i managed to blow two auto boxes on my motor turned out to be a partially blocked oil cooler so make sure you get it checked if you decide to stay auto.
I converted my Cosmo to manual at the start of the year and would never go back to a Auto again, the stock 20b Cosmo is a great car to drive but put a manual in it and it becomes a compleatly different beast alltogether. There\'s been a number of conversions done downunder as you probably know mine differs in the fact i used the stronger FD3 gearbox rather than a FC box usually used. Its a pretty easy conversion to do if you can use a welder for fabricating the new crossmember you can probably do most of it yourself.
If you need anymore info email at kevin-gordon@lineone.net
