Hi,

Just been thinking over and trying to explore some options for my car when its engine goes kaboom....initially i was gonna wait till the engine went and then buy and FD....but the FC is beggining to grow on me somewhat to the extent that id rather keep it...

But that still leaves me with the dilemma over what to do in a quest for more power but also reliable power...

One option a few people have mentioned is transplanting an FD engine into the FC...its supposedly less work than a 20B engine....

SO what im asking really is what sort of work is involved with this sort of conversion...does the conversion require now mounts or can exisitng mounts be modified to fit...and which of the 2 is the easier option.
Can the stock fuel pump cope wih the demands or would that need uprating.
How about stock electronics? Or are they not up to the task either?

Does the FD use a different gearbox...im assuming the bell-housings are the same for both FC (TII) and FD therefore the gearboxes are interchangeable....but would it be better to use the FD ratios or the FC ratios.

Im aware that a few people have done this conversion. Im not saying i want to do it....just explring the possiblity at the moment?

thanks

Have a word with T2rew before you start he has done it and it was quite a bit of work!  If you do a search he has put up detailed threads about his experiences.

In MY opinion its not worth going for an FD engine.  See my thread in Members rides if you can get access.   I have a TII with a rebuilt TII engine which has over 400 FlyWHP at 12psi.   If your going to modify the engine/turbo etc, then there isnt a great deal to be gained by using the FD lump,  if you have no budget and want as much power as possible then do it,  but if you want as much power for as little money as possible, then rebuild yours and the money you were going to spend buying, rebuilding and fitting the FD engine, you could spend on modifying your engine/turbo and get as much power if not more.    The main difference in the block is the ports are smaller on the FC but if you port it you can get them the same size as the FD

You can even fit an Apexi Power FC to the TII with a little help from Re Worx to modify your loom.

TREX has a Gen 2 with a Hybrid FD engine but retains the stock engine mounts. You would have to speak to an engine builder about building one like this.   Both will fit to a TII gearbox.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

if you want to go 20b route just buy the engine mount adaptors from aus. you will lose power steering this way as the engine won\'t pass over the rack so that needs to be changed. Ask 20b boy he had one for a short while. Fc engine is good enough to get me 400 atw with more to go. Can\'t see the point off the fd lump in there myself. There are soooo many other factors that make power get them sorted out. Then go for a engine that has bigger runners, ports to start with.

Look at all the high power engines built in aus and see how many are made with S6 parts...

Sure FD is fave, but if you are going to do any thing \'silly\' I would forget the hassle and expense of the transplant and wazz the cash on your BT motor instead :D
