Dear All

Ive been reading the forums for a couple of months now and have learnt a lot about owning and running these beasts.  Im currently looking for one, but have one major bugbear, insurance.  My daily driver is a DC2 Integra Type R, but now I have one car I lusted after in my mispent youth, :3gears-lh  I want the only other car Ive really wanted, a FD, to have as a 2nd car.  Im looking for one for around £10k, quite modded, but im having trouble even getting a quote for a standard one.  Im currently with Adrian Flux, I called them today, but they didnt seem interested, and said if I wanted one the quote would be around £3k  .  After they put me through to about 5 call centres, I spoke to a company called Sky Insurance (08701121759), they said they would call me back to see what they could do.  A couple of hours later they called back and said they could do it for £841, which was about what I was expecting, but said I would have to prove that I had the 6yrs NCB on the ITR.  I later called A Plan on recommendations at this site, they said they might be able to mirror my ITR NCB onto a FD.  I recieved a call back telling me that only one company could do it as Im mirroring a lower group to higher group car (18 vs. 20) at £1545.  He said it would be better to do it the other way around and eventually found that he could insure both for £1500 all in if I cancelled my ITR insurance and insured the FD as a main car.  Im 26 yrs old, 6 yrs NCB, clean license, fault accident in 08/03 (protected NCB), both garaged, TW19 postcode. Im one month in on my ITR insurance and am looking to buy a FD in the next two weeks.  I thought I would be safe staying with Flux as they advertise themselves as \'specialists\', but £3k?? What proof would Sky insurance need (copy of cover note or NCB proof??), or should I cancel flux and go with a-plan??? Ive tried AON but they dont insure under 30\'s on FD\'s.  Any other suggestions, I would be grateful.
PS- Ill join once I finally get my FD!!!

cheers

It all depends on how old you are and if a company is willing to give you classic insurance. I\'ve got my fd with houghton insurance on a classic policy for about 700 quid with quite alot of mods. I\'ve had the car for about 15months now and i was over 25 at the time ! It may have changed. They don\'t use your first cars NCB, that goes with the first car. In my case a pug 106 diesel (cheap as chips :) )
After owning and insuring an fto GPX before the pug and fd came out a much cheaper option :)

Same as shaun for me!!!!! A naff old 205 as a run around 2nd car, and im insured with houghton with the rex. I have the classic policy as my fd is over ten years old, i have an agreed value, but limited to 3000 miles but i think you can make this 5000! and it has to be garaged. Also no claims bonus dont even come into it. Mine is pretty standard i am 27 and i pay £286 :yes
there number is 01582 867763. The only bad thing about them i can say is they are open office hours so, monday to friday only, a bit naff if you find a car over the weekend!

AON have insured for the under 30\'s! They insured me 2 years back - when i was 27. And that was in Bristol too.

hi mate, if it\'s a second car and you want limited mileage give these guys a call:

Egger Lawson 0115 9415255 option 4, 2
speak to steve, tell him gareth from Melton Mowbray sent you, you can get discount for all sorts of stuff, including being a paid up member here.

Hoddesdon Insurance Consultants   0845 121 2212
At 25 £681.85 with agreed value of £7.5k, excess would be £400.

Adrian Flux do RX\'s through Highway who bumped up premiums after too many claims last year.

Cheers for the help guys, Ive just got off the phone from AON, spoke to a different bloke from last time, very helpful, knew his stuff, finally £600 limited to 5k miles, on a classic type policy (NCB doesnt come into it), just waiting a call back from Houghtons, GeckoGareth, cheers for those, Ill try those later to see if I can get it slightly cheaper!!! I spoke to Ad Flux this morning as well, I used to actually have Highway as my underwriter before my accident on my ITR, but it seems my current underwriter (NIG) isnt willing to accept any \'risks\'??? Cheers for the responses guys hopefully Ill see you soon in my new FD!!!

Thanks-John

Freddy

Glad you\'re sorted.

Slight off topic here. I could be interested in your DC2 if its for sale. Also have a few FD\'s in at the moment. Could do a part ex.

Freddy

Im gonna keep the DC2 as my main car and the FD as a second one.  I was thinking of chipping in the DC2, but its served me so well over the last 4 yrs, I dont have the heart to!! Also if I were to get a cheap car like I was thinking of for my main (106 diesel), I would end up driving the FD every day, at least with the DC2, its a very tempting daily driver.  Sorry mate, if I do think of chipping in the ITR any time soon, I send you a mail
cheers mate

Usually the fuel bill forces you to use the 106 (it does with me) plus you arn\'t meant to use it to go to work in either !

Mines a bit higher because i\'ve declared all my mods and told them its 300 bhp ATW, which it is :). Looking to get them to insure a big single in the next couple of years (hopefully).

I disagree that you aren\'t meant to use it as an everyday car. Why not!? It\'s a car! Why can\'t it be used as an everyday car to go to work in? I think peoples perception that because it\'s unique and fast that it should only be used occassionally. As long as you perform the correct maintenance on it and treat it with respect, there should be no problem with using it.

Obviously the fule costs are hugely high with this thing, and that is usually the limitting factor.

GeckoGareth

I shouldn\'t use mine as an everyday car as:
a) not insured for driving to work
b) can\'t afford the petrol
c) I do 300 miles a week and I\'m limited to 3000 miles!

Quite agree, I use mine as a daily commute (fortunately I live pretty near work so the petrol bills are sustainable - but painful).  ;)
FD or not FD? that is the question.

tr1cky

Think shuanwill meant you shouldn\'t use the car for going to work as a classic policy will not cover this and generally has a very limited mileage, which in many case\'s prevent this!

BTW- Bigmadjohn, are you still looking for a car?? If so have a look at the for sale section at my car, could be what your after!!

Sorry for the blatant plug!

The FC is dead, long live the FD
