My 1st gen\'s engine has just been recently rebuilt.

Just wondering how long I should take it easy on the throttle to let the engine settle in. I\'ve done aroung 500 miles on it since the rebuild and have kept the rpm below 3,500.

Planning to do the same for the next 500 miles before being more heavy footed.

Can anyone who knows any better give me some advice?

Cheers :)

It was rebuilt with new Rotor Housings if that makes any difference.......

Sounds like you have the right idea mate, Probably safe to use upto 4000rpm though.  :)

Did you rebuild it yourself, or was it dont by an engine builder? If the latter - ask them!

Otherwise 500 then slowly wind it up bit by bit after an oil change? Everyone has their own opinions on running in...

It was rebuilt by my local Mazda Dealer but it\'s the first rotary rebuild they\'ve done.....I\'m fairly confident the mechanic has done a good rebuild but I would never go back to that dealer. They just don\'t seem to have any concept of customer service! I\'m going to get my car serviced/checked out once I\'m in the UK by someone who actually knows what they are doing.

The mechanic suggested <3,500 rpm for 1000 miles then an oil change. Just checking what other people think as I have no experience of this......it\'s my first rotary and my first need for a rebuild.

Thanks for your comments.

Ahh, hadnt noticed u were in Ireland.

I would follow their advise and do 1000 at low rpm then. Then oil change and gradually introduce rpm and load.

Mine has also been recently rebuilt and is currently being run.  Have done just over 600 miles so far.  The way you are treating yours is fine, i\'ve been told not to go above 4000rpm and then get an oil change done at 1000 miles.  After that you can begin to use it properly.

Also let the oil warm up properly before going anywhere near 4000 revs.  I let mine idle for a couple of minutes before moving off while i sort out my music and stuff and then drive very gently for about 10 minutes as there\'s no oil temp gauge to go by.
