Well got out of work slightly early, I needed to change the oil tonight in the rex since I plan on running it up the 1/4mile on saturday, got the oil and to my plesant suprise Halfords stocked the oil filter too. great, so I trot off home (realising I have a MAJOR petrol leak, I had filled it up minutes before to £59 worth and it might have been slightly overfilled but jeez its dumping alot of petrol about...) So gets home, lets the engine cool down significantly before attempting to drain it, only to find I have no Jack  At this point I realise theres not much chance of getting a jack under the vielside kit even if I did have 1...

So I drive the car half way onto the driveway (its on a slope and the way it is half way on I can get under the car. Now I realise I might be able to reach the sump plug BUT theres not enough clearance to get my drain bucket underneath  so cant do that either....

really dont want to fork out for a trolley jack either (which Im still not convinced I can get under the motor and jack up safely  ) Friggin motors... so Ive used a litre of my new oil to top it up... Still not impressed though.

Trolley jack and axle stands.  Decent enough set from Halfrauds shouldn\'t set you back too much and it\'s invaluable if you\'re going to do work on your motor.

If you\'re struggling to get the TJ under your kit then just use the emergengy jack to lift the side of the car an inch or so.

That\'s what most of us do anyway!

a trolley jack to fit under a veilside would have to be a pretty low one, the ones we have dont fit so we bought a low one which cost 170 quid.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

i use two bits of short metal and stick one end on a short bit off thick wood and drive up it that gives just enough to get tk under

iaint, dont have the emergency jack ;)

Adib, did think of that but had nothing to hand last night when I got home, so no oil change for me yesterday :(

I think 2 axel stands and jack from Halfords approx £80 canna be bad eh ?  ;)

I picked up a 2 tonne trolley jack for, wait for it... 5 quid from camberley auto factora a couple of years ago, although it was on offer at the time. But that used to fit under my super-deep skirts on my lowered *cough cough Corsa cough cough* i would stick a block of wood between the jack face and the jack point so i didn\'t hit the side skirts, plus if the wood is slightly soft (not pine, it\'ll split) it takes the shape of the jack face and the jack point and fits in snugly for ease of use the next time! Axle stands were only about £15 from halfords too i think, ive also got some of those roll-on metal ramps which would be ideal for changing oil, they weren\'t expensive, or for the mechanic on a budget, why not roll both front wheels up two very shallow planks of wood with bricks under one end? if you arent messing about with the wheels/brakes/susp, its a pretty safe way to get access.

machine mart do some pretty cheap trolley jacks too, just make sure it sits down low enough !
