We have a nice black Elford That has been sitting for a while,  we are getting it up and running again.  I forgot how bad the steering is on these things.  Its a Mk 3,  1985

What suggestions do you have,  on my other one with the TII engine Tim converted it to rack and pinion several years ago.  This was a hard job so we were looking of a way to improve it that might be a bit easier to do.

Everyone has always said that the Mk 2 boxes are better.  Has anyone swapped to one of these?,   was it an easy job?   Are they much better cos it would need to be...

The car at the moment has a 2" SU on it instead of the stock 1 3/4.  We are going to change it to a 13 B but keep the elford set up,  just convert it to fit the 13B.  We may use the TII turbo or keep the elford one depending on fit and space etc as the steering box is right where the turbo is...

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

take a look on the for sale section of the aus rotary forum, they are getting together a group buy for a steering rack conversion ... it looks like a pretty simple DIY job (just wait and find out what rack they are using and then weld your own brackets to the X - member.

I was trying to get them to do a weld on kit which would be an ideal way of doing things in my eyes.

if you DIY\'d your own keep a pattern of all the parts or make a jig and I\'m 100% sure you could cover the costs by selling a kit ;)

the main problem from memory is that the steering is behind the engine on a mk 1,   this means that the track rod ends are also on the side of the wheel nearest the back.

If you dont get the rack in the right place,  you will get bump steer, (talking from experience)   the track rod ends need to be moved.

I will check out the Ausrotor site
